“What do you want for your birthday?” Chloe asks me.
“I don’t know,” I respond, my eyes glued to the television screen.
“Oh come on, you have to help me out with this,” She groans.
“Well I don’t know,” I answer her, trying to shut her up. Maybe I shouldn’t have invited her over at 2 in the morning because I couldn’t sleep. Apart from the telly noise, I enjoy the silence.
“You know you usually give me a hint,” She points out.
“Yes, but I’m not giving you a hint this year, you know me well enough to know what I want if you are to get me a present,” I argue.
“Why not?” She asks.
“Chloe, I’m trying to watch this,” I say, taking my eyes off of the screen before I return to watching one of my favorite scenes of all time.
“Lola, you’ve seen Breaking Dawn Part 1 about a million times and I’m getting sick of it,” She complains.
“But the wedding scene is about to happen! Everyone loves this scene. So please shut your mouth so I can envelop myself into the scene,” I exaggerate. Chloe laughs at my seriousness for this movie.
“It’s not even the real wedding yet Lola, this is the nightmare,”
“I know and I’d like to enjoy the pain and suffering of her nightmare so if you don’t mind,” She laughs again. One of my favorite scenes of the movie, other than her actual wedding, is her wedding nightmare. The first time I saw it, it freaked me out. Now I can’t draw my eyes away from watching it because it’s so interesting to watch.
“Why did you even call me over here? It’s what-2 in the morning and you decide to have a Twilight marathon?” She was right about that. It was one of those nights where I couldn’t sleep-not because of coffee-but because I couldn’t get my mind to relax. While others count sheep, drink warm milk, or eat a peanut butter sandwich, I’m the one who enjoys the violent scenes of Twilight in order to get back to sleep. It puts my mind on something different for a bit. It seems weird that I’ve been watching all of them since about 8 o clock in the evening. I thought they would put my mind at ease by now. In this case, it wasn’t really working.
“Is there a problem with that?” I ask as Bella’s nightmare ends.
“Yeah, why am I here?” She exclaims. I shrug.
“I got lonely,” She lets out a dramatic sigh and stands up from the couch to face me.
“Call Louis then, bug him instead of me. I’m going back to bed,” She says annoyed, then stomps out of my flat and closes the door behind her.
Note to self-don’t bang on Chloe’s door at 2 in the morning to force her to watch all the Twilights with you. At least I have some peace and quiet now.
You ready?
Yeah dad, just, don’t let me fall.
Never.
Even though I’ve seen this scene a million times, I always feel a few tears prick in my eyes. Knowing that my dad won’t be there like Charlie was for Bella no matter what, to not let me fall and walk me down the aisle. It hurts so much. I lean my head on my hand, pulling my blanket up closer to me to keep me warm. I was almost comfortable when I heard my phone ring that same piano riff.
Quickly wiping the tears from my eyes, I answer it.
“Hello?”
“Lola? Hey,” Louis’ voice greets me. I smile.
“Hey, how’s a going?” He doesn’t respond.
“Are you okay?” I ask him.
“I’m fine, why wouldn’t I be?” He answers rather quickly. Wait a minute. Does he know about the hate? Please tell me he hasn’t found out. The last thing I want is for him to worry about me. “Louis is everything alright?”
“I just-“He sighs. “Yeah, yeah I’m fine. I feel stupid for calling you this late,” I could tell by the sound of his choked voice that he wasn’t okay.
“You don’t sound fine, and I told you that you can call anytime you want. Now what’s on your mind?” I say calmly. He stays quiet for a few moments, so I take the time to pause the movie.
“Another nightmare,” He finally returns. “I didn’t want to bother you but I wanted to talk to Harry but he was in a bad mood today and all the other boys were really tired so I wanted to hear your voice again and maybe talk to you about it,”
“Aww Lou,” I coo. “But are you okay now? What happened in the nightmare?”
“Falling. You and I were both falling, and then all my friends and family appeared out of nowhere, falling with us. And right when you were dead I screamed before I did and then I woke up,” It amazes me how he can remember his dreams so vividly, but nightmares can be remembered easier than just an ordinary dream.
“Did you call me right after you woke up?” I ask.
“Yes,” He admits. “God I wish you were here with me right now. I miss you so much,”
“I miss you too Louis,” I say. “But you know that’s never going to happen, right?”
“Yeah, I do,” He whispers. “I’m sorry; it just kind of spooked me,”
“It’s okay,” I say, staring back at the paused screen.
“So what are you doing up this late in the night? You sound pretty wide awake,” He says.
“Watching movies,” I answer him.
“At 2 in the morning?” He questions.
“I couldn’t sleep, so I’m just going to watch the wedding scene of Breaking Dawn Part 1 and then I’ll go to bed,” I say.
“Really Lola? That’s what helps you get to sleep? Most people think that vampires keep people up at night,”
“Not me,” I shake my head. “And besides, it’s the wedding. So go ahead and laugh all you want as I enjoy this most awesome and beautiful scene,” He laughs.
“Alright fine,” He answers as the soundtrack music starts playing in the background. “So what else is going on in London? Anything I’m missing?”
“Nope, not one bit,” I answer him. There wasn’t really much more I could tell him about here. Nothing interesting has happened. “I’m sorry I’m keeping you up aren’t I?”
“No, no you’re fine. Can’t sleep anyways,” He says. “Besides, I want to talk to you more. I’d actually rather be snuggling next to you on your couch and watching that wedding scene,” I chuckle, the statement making my heart flutter.
“Me too, so tell me about tour life. It must be more exciting than London life,” I sit back down on the couch and keep watching Bella and Edward’s wedding and listening to Louis at the same time, asking questions and giving small responses as he keeps talking. Louis’ story-telling of the tour got even more interesting the more he told me about it. It almost made me want to live that life as well.
Almost.
