Chapter 7: Chat with Pat
Why did the weekend go by so fast? It’s always homework that takes up most of my weekend anyways, I guess there's no point. Except I just spent my entire Saturday night stalking some boy band.
As I got myself ready in the morning I looked at myself in the mirror and gave myself a smile, saying, “I need to get them out of my head for a while, just try and forget about them” Maybe I could get together and talk with Pat today, it has been a while since I’ve talked to him.
I get through the Monday as best as I can, then I practically race out of the school and stand outside the front, looking for Pat. He’s usually around, browsing through his phone in one hand, and a book in the other. He always has his brother pick him up since he didn't have his own car yet, so he just waits lonely on the bench unless I join him.
When I turn around one more time, I finally see him, exactly as I pictured him, just without a book. He looks serious as he swipes his fingers up and down on his phone. I don’t hesitate to start walking toward him, and stand right in front of him until he looks up.
“Oh hey,” he says, his eyes widening in surprise as he sees me. He scoots over, signaling me to sit down next to him.
“Why haven’t I talked to you,” he blurts out right after I set my backpack down.
“I don’t know,” I respond, not looking at him. “Just busy, I guess,”
“We’re always busy,” he says. I lift my head up and look out in the distance where he was looking.
“Well, that’s college in London,” I say. He nods. We considered it as just a high school, because we had our own homes and took academic classes. Pat sits back a little and stuffs his phone in his pocket.
“So how’s your injuries?” he asks, looking at me now.
“Better than they were, actually back to normal as you can see,” I smile a little. He squints a little, studying my face.
“Nope still see it,” he teases, patting my cheek.
“Oh come on, black eye cleared up in about a week, I’m fine,”
“How many times can I keep asking?”
“How many times do I have to answer, because you’re just doubling the questioning,” His smile droops a little.
“Oh yeah, did that Louis guy ever have time to apologise?” I scoff.
“More than enough, I can’t even count how many times. He actually wanted to do something or give me something for hurting me,”
“In return for giving you a concussion? That’s great,” he snaps. I look up at him this time.
“What’s that supposed to mean,” I ask, not question-like.
“Just look at him, pleading for your forgiveness after hurting you,”
“He didn’t mean it you know,” I interjected.
“Well, he meant to get the ball out of under my feet and kick it in your direction,”
“He didn’t mean for it to come at me, he just lost control,” I argue back, but he’s not convinced.
“Didn’t you see the competitive streak in him? He wanted to win, he wanted to beat us, you could just see it in those eyes-“
“He was doing it for charity,” That silences him, then he sighs and holds his head in his hands for a minute, then looks back up at me, pointing a finger in my face.
“You need to be careful of him, an member of a sensatioal boy band, you never know what could happen. You shouldn’t even feel comfortable talking to him, doesn’t he just give you that weird feeling?”
“Maybe I like that feeling,” I mutter and he glares at me, then relaxes his face.
“I’m sorry Charlotte, I just want you to be safe,” he says, ignoring my last remark.
“And I don’t need to be looked after, I’m fine Pat, just believe it,” He gives me a confused look.
“I never said you had to be looked after, where did that thought come from?” he laughs a little. I sigh.
“I have no idea, but I’m fine, just take care of yourself for a while, with or without Louis talking to me. And if you want, I’ll tell you everything he says, yeah? Would you like that?” he nods, just as his brother’s car pulls up.
“Talk to you later Lola, keep yourself safe,” he says, getting up to leave. I nod and wave as he takes off. I wasn’t going to let Louis or any of them get in the kind of relationship I have with Pat, which was just unthinkable. I did always have the thought in the back of my head wondering if he liked me, which is possible, but I don’t think we’re quite there. We’ll probably never get there anyways, which I’m okay with 100%. He’s my best friend and nothing more. Unless he thinks of it differently.
Hey guys, I'm glad this is getting more reads! The next chapters will finally speed this story up a bit, I promise. We just had to see what Pat was thinking about this...which we may find out a bit more in the future. All comments and reviews are accepted, thanks for reading! And may the odds be ever in your favor. CATCHING FIRE WAS SO AWESOME! -Lexy
