Chapter 27: Another Accident

“So how long do these usually last?” Chloe asks.

“A couple hours, they go by pretty fast,” I answer. She lets out a dramatic sigh beside me, making me chuckle a little.

“Why did you drag me to this football match anyways?” she groans.

“I got lonely the last time, and let’s just say me standing by Harry for the rest of the first match was completely uncomfortable,”

“He had another match? How many have you been to now?” she asks eagerly.

“One, technically two since I was competing against him, but I’ve only watched one of his matches,”

“Do you see him anywhere?” she asks, peering out into the field and adjusting herself to see the field better.

“Why have you decided to ask me all these questions?” I respond.

“Hey, never answer a question with a question, oh! Found him!”

You’re probably wondering why I decided to bring Chloe to Louis’ last match with me. Yes, I was a bit lonely and still uncomfortable with Harry. But it was mainly the reason to not get threatened by any fans.  I’m not sure how to stand up for myself when that happens yet, so I have Chloe now.

I look back at the field, focusing on where the ball is, which is heading right towards the opponents’ goal. Just one more kick and they’d have it.  The goalie wasn’t watching carefully enough so they could shoot it.  And someone from Louis’ team did, causing me to jump up and cheer.

“Yes! Did you see that! That was amazing!” I shake Chloe’s shoulder as she stands up with me.

“It was so amazing!” I practically yell over the other crowds’ cheers, shaking her even harder making her laugh.

“Okay, okay, wow you’re excited,” I sit back down with Chloe, watching the ball being passed to another player.

“They could win this!” I rant, all of my pure excitement showing. “Then Louis wouldn’t be so upset about it and can be all happy on their tour and be all enthusiastic and won’t let down his fans and-“

“Lola,” she nudges me with her shoulder, signaling me to stop talking.

“I’ll stop talking,” I say, looking down at my converse.  I was in my almost same outfit as the last match, sweatpants and a jumper with a matching beanie.

“No, not that, well kind of that but-- look at Louis,” she says with a more curious tone in her voice.  I try to find Louis out in the field, looking for his same tousled hair and football jersey.  It took me a few seconds, but I could finally see him only a few feet away from the ball.

“What about him?” I ask looking back at her. He looked okay to me, but Chloe suddenly looked worried.

“He looks like he’s about to pass out!” she calls, still watching him intently.

I look at Louis again and focus on his face, which is turning a slight pale color.  His eyes were wide with energy but blinking hard at multiple times. He wasn’t sprinting up and down the field either, he was going at a much slower pace than the rest of the players.

Now he was the one with the ball, kicking it slower than usual towards the goal.  He grabbed his side with one hand, but he kept trying to run and kick the ball. Another opponent was gaining up on him now, a mere foot behind him.

“Lola he’s—“I tune out the rest of Chloe’s words. It was like all I could hear was Louis’ hard breathing and his fast heartbeat, like everything turned into slow motion. I find myself standing up slowly, gaping at him with wide eyes as the opponent that was behind him was right on his tail.  It didn’t look like he was trying to stop Louis, he just wanted to stop him from shooting it.  But right as his foot almost grabbed the ball away, the opponent slammed right into Louis’ left side, causing him to crash to the ground and skid back a little. I put a hand over my mouth to cover my scream, looking at him like that just made me want to cry.
