~Pitch~

Tears stained my cheeks as the Nightmare beside me ruffled with every heaving sob. She was gone. Forever. I hated that word. Forever. Forever was too long.

My throne of Lost Souls felt empty. In the darkness, where everything that used to be found lurked. The photo of Jamie was broken, shards scattered across the floor. I didn't bother. I didn't want any reminders of her and the pain and the hate. It was too much to bear. Too much for eternity.

In my hands shook the photo of my wife, the white-and-black picture barely doing her justice. I missed her beauty, and lively olive eyes and beautiful shining hair. Now I was alone. Alone.

"Oh Lady Pitchiner..." her name only made the tears fall rapidly. "I have failed you..."

I felt ashamed. The one who loved me, now gone. There was no way to bring her back.

Bring her back.

I inhaled carefully, other thoughts invading my mind. Could I do it? Can I stand being alone? Why must I be the one to suffer? Why must it be me? Immortality is possible. Revival is possible.

"Yes, lovely Pitchiner..." I mused, and I let a smile flicker across my face. "If only you can see what I have become of darkness..." I laughed haughtily. The lost things in the shadows stirred. "And you will, my love."

~End of Book One. Elsa and Jack Frost will return in the sequel, 'Careful What You Wish For'~
