Matthew Patrick had just got home from a research trip for his newest episode of Game Theory to find the house empty. Normally his boyfriend, Nate, would be there waiting for him with open arms and a welcome home kiss. But today there was no one there.

Searching through the eerily quiet house, he shuddered slightly at the lack of music from the direction of their room.

Venturing into the kitchen, hoping beyond hope that maybe Nate was cooking something, Matt saw that the room was empty and there was a piece of paper on the table.

I'm sorry Matt, I can't let him hurt anyone else. I love you. Goodbye.

Matt almost screamed when he read it. He knew that the musician had been struggling with what he'd called 'a voice in his head.' for a while now and that he'd been irritable and somewhat violent.

"But why this?" Matt said aloud. He crumpled the note in his hand and darted off to look for him, calling outfor Nate at the top of his lungs. "Nate? Nate answer me!"

He ran upstairs, making a beeline for the bedroom. The door was shut tight, almost like it'd been barricaded from within. He wasn't very physically strong himself, but he was determined to get into the room. Logic dictated that that's where Nate was.

After a few painful rams, the door yielded to him, the scraping sound of furniture moving coming from within. Matt squeezed through the narrow gap and past the chest of drawers that had barred his way and stopped dead in his tracks when he saw what had been hidden from him.

Nate was lying motionless on their bed, an empty glass on the nightstand.

The theorist ran over and picked up the glass, cautiously sniffing the inside. His blood ran cold when he recognised the faint smell of antifreeze. He sat on the edge of the bed and shook Nate gently by the shoulder. "Nate? Honey please... please wake up."

Nothing.

He shook Nate's shoulder again, biting back a sob. "Nate please."

Nothing.

Afraid of what he might find, Matt put his fingers to the side of Nate's neck to check for a pulse and found nothing.

Cradling his boyfriend's limp body in his arms, Matt let the tears flow. How had he let this happen? If only he'd stayed home, Nate would still be...

Rocking back and forth, Nate held close and his breathing ragged and broken by sobs, Matt found himself singing. Singing a song that Nate always sung to him when he'd gotten sick;

"You are my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skies are gray.
If you only knew, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away."
