CHAPTER 7: It's Nice to Meet You
---------
"I knew you were up to no good," Maam Julie sighed, tapping her feet impatiently, with her arms crossed as she glowered on me.
I already explained to her why there was a headless, shadowy man and a horse in the classroom, and it seems that even she could tame a supernatural being of Duan's degree. At first, she was skeptical, thinking that all of this was a joke or a prank by us, but when she examined the Dullahan and realized that it was, indeed, true, she started a sermon about me being careful about my choices and not dragging other people into my mess.
"It's okay if you don't wanna help," I murmured, playing with my ballpen for a while, "Zeige and I could manage,"
Duan also mustered up the courage to speak in her presence "I knew I couldn't trust mortals on this,"
And that remark went straight to my ego. I gave him a glare, almost feeling a lump form in my throat before I retorted, "Fine! Go search for all I care! Take 10 more years if you have too!"
Maam Julie stopped me from continuing by placing a hand on my shoulder and shaking her head. I calmed myself down and crossed my arms.
"It's risky helping such a being," She said, eyes still scanning him through her glasses, "But if we don't help him, he'll continue to terrorize our town,"
"Of course," He replied and everyone wasn't happy with the answer.
"So how can we help him find his head? We're not hackers or anything..." Angel asked, somewhat fearfully.
"True," Maam Julie murmured, and everyone went silent, hoping for an encouragement to lift their spirits up. Even I couldn't think or suggest what to do.
"Well..." John started and all eyes went on him, "We may not be hackers but this is our turf,"
"You live farther than here," Someone had said. It was true. John lives out at town, about two rides from this school, and he barely knows this area.
Still, he ignored the remark, "We have connections. We can gather information that way,"
"Yeah! I know a lot of high ranking people too," Raham added.
Francis stood up and proudly announced, "Hey, me and my bros can hack a couple of things in the net,"
And suddenly, the tension in the classroom faded away and everyone seemed eager and willing to help. I'm sure Duan has noticed it by now, but he showed no signs of faltering. I held back a giggle and reached out to tap his shoulders.
"Sorry about what I said. I really wanna help," I said softly.
His shoulders, which were stiff a while back, went lax and he took my hand in his, "Honestly mortal, thank you,"
I forced the blush to not show itself and I pulled my hand away slowly, "The name's Jeffy. Don't rub it in that I'm just a mortal."
He chuckled and faced the class, "I appreciate your help." He said, "If things go smoothly, expect a reward from me. But if it doesn't..."
His sudden pause gave suspense to the air and I felt his chilling aura reappear as he finished, "...You all have to perish,"
The suspense was so thick, but it was easily cut through when the bell rang, signaling for the next subject to start. Maam Julie went to panic mode.
"Jeffy! Hide your friend! What if others see him?!"
"I'd cut off their heads, do not worry," Duan replied in a blank tone.
"That's what we're worried about!!"
I looked at Duan with questioning eyes, and I'm sure he sighed in defeat. He waved his hand, "I can change my form then,"
"You can?" Everyone eyed him curiously.
He nodded and petted his horse. Slowly, the horse's being merged with his and he took the form of a normal teenage human, this time, with a head.
I couldn't help but move over and whisper on his ear. Everyone still watched curiously as his form changed. This time he stood on 5"7, with black, slightly messy hair, charcoal tinted eyes, and a pitch black getup of jeans, a long sleeved hoodie and converse shoes. His skin, which was only his face, neck and hands, was pale, retaining his other-worldly feel, but he looked more human than before.
"Wow, I have a good taste," I smirked, admiring the things that I requested him to be, before looking at the bewildered looks on my classmates, "Don't you think so?"
They only nodded slowly.
Maam Julie had already exitted our classroom, stiffling her laughter, as our next teacher for Economics, Maam Girlie, came in with a curious look. Everyone was seated in their respective chairs, but Duan stood at the front.
"I didn't know we have a new student today," Maam Girlie stated.
Duan gave a gentle smile, one that beats any human's smile, since he isnt, and he extends his arm at her for a handshake, "Yes, I am a new student. It's nice to meet you. Please call me Duan,"
