CHAPTER 22: It Starts Now!

.

.

The next day, I brought Duan to class again. Well, he waited for me by the school's gate anyways, in his human form. We got in, thankful that most of the students were busy playing, and running, and shouting.

Wow, they're breaking a lot of rules.

We entered the classroom, just as everyone was doing their homeworks. They looked up, and their eyes widened.

"Duan!!" Chrischelled yelled, "You're back!"

"Hello," Duan greeted back with a slight wave, "I'm sorry for the trouble..."

"No way, bro!" Klyde hooked his arm on the other's neck, "You should see how much things we've got for you!"

"M-me...?"

On cue, Francis took out his laptop from under the table and showed the screen to him, "We got access to the police records thanks to Jake."

Duan stiffened at the name, "I... I'm sorry about what happened to Jake..."

"He's gonna be fine." Francis waved his hand and then mentioned to the laptop, "Anyways, we got the list of items and some possible suspects too."

"Woah," I leaned in to check the list, "Jake did some really good research huh?"

"We all did," Maam Julie stated as-a-matter-of-factly, crossing her arms with a smile, "We need to get this problem solved,"

"Or the government might end up making things worse for Duan," Klyde said too.

"I agree," I took a nearby chair and sat down to scroll across the list.

There were items ranging from common artifacts to unknown ones I didn't even know existed. Even preserved fingers, petrified remains of old kings, a teeth set from a guy from Bermuda and a jar of elf-like ears.

Gosh, what a weird museum they'll be making for these.

And there it was. A preserved head of the Headless Rider.

I couldn't enlarge the picture because it was only a thumbnail. I wanted to see how Duan's face looked like! Well, even from afar, I can tell he's as pale as he is now.

Now onto the list of suspects. I scrolled down more and saw only 5 of them were listed.

"There was only 5?" I asked Francis.

"Yeah," He looked at John who took out a piece of paper and handed it to me, "Same with his list,"

"Oh," I got it and I smiled, "His list is more complete for the suspects,"

True, he had a table on the paper with the names of the five suspects, their age, occupation and even their address.

The first one was Alfred McGranz. Age 44. Biker Gang Leader. Germany. Second was Meribelle Saunto. Age 29. Fashion Designer. Manila. Third was Rezar Friedric. Age 24. Working Student. Trancoville. Fourth was Soriano Defileto. Age 27. Mechanical Engineer. Taguig. And lastly was Michaele Lenitoa. Age 31. Doctor. Pangasinan.

"Nosy brat," Francis retorted.

"I'm just better at this kind of things,"

I handed Maam Julie the paper and she scanned it. Suddenly, she stopped, "Wait, Rezar? Rezar Friedric?"

Najeba looked at Maam, "You know him?"

"Know him? He's a student at the university I'm in!" She sighed and rubbed her temples, "Same class with me too,"

"Is he still coming to class?" Asked Angel.

"He... Is," Our teacher gave a thoughtful expression, "But it's strange don't you think?"

Patricia nodded, "It is. If he's a suspect, then why would he still show up?"

"The media didn't announce this anyways," Jaspher added, "That's why nobody knows,"

"But some police does, right?" Asked Naseem, putting his chin on his palm.

"Right. But they didn't make a move yet..." Jeshoa sighed, "Some police we've got here,"

"You can't blame them. It's the government," Retorted Adam.

"Some government we've got here then..."

I mentally gave a facepalm at Jeshoa's comeback.

Zaira crossed her arms, "So this Rezar guy thinks he's safe."

"In the university? I don't think so. " Maam Julie sat beside us, "The place is supported by the government remember?"

"Oh yeah," I nodded.

"If he's a suspect, then he must know more about the rest of the guys and the stolen items," Julia said in recap.

"I say we should go ask him already," Aron stated with a smirk.

Nicole slightly laughed, "You mean beat him up until he spills the information?"

Maam Julie casted short glares at them, "C'mon guys, let's be realistic. You can't beat a guy twice your size who does heavy labor and is studious in all aspects."

"Ouch." Patricia laughed at the boys' disbelieving expressions.

"But I do agree with Aron." Said maam, "We have to get him before the government does."

"Any plans?" Asked Duan, finally speaking for the first time.

"I'll see if I can ask him for a talk. You guys can show up for that." She said, flashing a smile.

I replied with my own and the fisted up to the air, "Alright! We're really going somewhere!"

Duan nodded slowly, "Thank you once again,"

Klyde gave him a knuckle to the head, "I told you to stop thanking us right? We're not only doing this for you, but also for our place!"

"I see, I see," He nodded while rubbing his sore head, "My bad,"

"So," Maam Julie checked her watch and saw that it was only 8:45, "Why don't you take a class for the day, Duan? There's still a lot of time before I make the arrangement,"

Duan blinked and looked around. The whole class was giving him puppy eyes saying 'Please stay!' or something along those lines. He couldn't help but smile in amusement.

"If it's okay with you, then I will," He said.

"Definitely!"

"Alright. I will,"

So Maam Julie took out her book and told everyone to sit down. Duan sat on the extra chair beside me and borrowed my pen and paper, earning a questioning look from me.

"I don't wanna get a low score on the next quiz. I'll beat you this time," He said, a hint of playfulness in his eyes.

I was slightly taken back, but who was I to turn down the challenge?

"You're on!"
