CHAPTER 8: Well How is It?

.

.

I found myself glancing at Duan's overly curious face as he listened to our Economics teacher talk about... well, Economics. His pale hand held one of my ballpens and he was taking down notes in a different language.

Armenian language, probably.

And did you know that he's actually left-handed? Well, I didn't until 5 minutes ago.

Maam Girlie didn't bother to ask him questions yet, maybe because of his really different atmosphere, and the fact that he blurts out random Armenian words in the middle of his statements. He reminds me of Adam in the first days if school- with him being foreign and all.

"Stop staring, you're making me melt," Came Duan's sudden statement, causing the whole class to turn silent, even the teacher.

And then bursted out laughing.

"W-what kind of pick-up line was that?!" Klyde said through fits of laughter, hand slapping his table in exaggeration.

"Probably applies to non-humans!" Even Patricia joined in.

Maam Girlie raised a brow at Patricia's words and I waved my hands frantically, "H-he's just too good to be human! Yeah! That's what she meant!"

When the class finally got their commonsense back, I pouted at Duan and he gave me a smirk, "What?"

"For a Dullahan, you're quite a playboy," I hissed.

"Don't refer to me in such a vulgar way. I'd like to think of myself as a charmer," His charcoal-black eyes shone with slight amusement and I can't help but melt into it.

"Whatever," I rolled my eyes and continued to listen to our lesson.

Kriiiiiiing!!

The bell rang, signalling our break time (recess), and the word suddenly raised a question in my head.

"Hey, Duan.. Do you eat?"

The only ones in the classroom that time were me, Duan, Penny, Angelica, Julia, Jeshoa, Naseem and Adam. All of us were awaiting his answer to such a humane question.

"It's not a necessity, but I can," He replied.

"Oh, so you can live without eating?" Asked Julia as she munched in her junkfood.

"Yes. I've done so for the past 10 years,"

"That's... just disturbing," Angel gave a nervous laugh.

"And here I thought you eat brains," Jeshoa blurted out.

All of us stared at him in disbelief, 'What made you think that?!'

"First, you compare me to vampires, and now to zombies?" Duan's face contorted in slight annoyance and I found myself laughing.

Penny sensed the same thing I was thinking and gave a playful say, "Hey, don't tease him! He might behead you or something!"

Just when I was about to continue her words, a higb-pitched voice called my name, "Jeffy!!!"

"Oh, hey Alec," I smiled at her as she gave a short hug to me.

Alec is a 3rd year of the same school with their classroom adjacent to ours, so we see each other often. She's my 2nd closest friend next to Penny in the school, and 3rd with Zeige in the 1st when out of school. She offered me some Wafer Haus and I gladly accepted.

"A new student?" She asked as her gaze landed on Duan.

"You could say so," I murmured through the wafer in my mouth, "I'll tell you all about him, hehehe,"

I looked at Duan and saw his eyes widen at my words. I ignored him for now and continued being a parasite of food. Penny joined us several seconds later and became another parasite. We exchanged short stories for a while until we noticed the minutes go by.

"I'll get going then," Alec said with a wave.

"Yeah, see you!" We waved back.

I turned to meet Duan's slightly fiery gaze and smiled, "I was just joking about what I said,"

He stepped up, towering over my figure by a couple of inches, and his eyes looked dead serious, "I don't take such jokes lightly,"

I kept up my smile, "Yeah, sorry,"

His glare lasted for a couple more seconds before he sat back down, his chin on his hand, as if thinking. I crouched down and got my pancake, which I forgot I had in the first place, from my bag, and handed a piece to him.

"What?" He raised a brow.

"Try it. I made it myself," i nudged the food on his hand and he begrudgingly took it.

"It's not sprinkled with gold is it?" He asked, eyeing on the bread suspiciously in all angles.

Penny tried to contain a sudden burst of laughter and ended up snorting, earning weird looks from everyone. Hell, even I nearly laughed, but that would make him more suspicious.

"No. I mean, I eat that too, so why put gold in it?"

His face shows something along the lines of "You have a point," and "Are you sure?", but he raised the bread to his lips. Everyone watched him intensely and it felt like everything was in slow motion as he bit into it and chewed.

"W-well...?" I asked in anticipation.

"Well what?" He retorted through the food in bis mouth. He even has one side of his cheeks puffed out!

"Are you gonna melt or something? Or undergo a chemical mutation?" Adam questioned.

"It's just damn food," Duan stated.

"Oh..." The rest echoed in disappointment, but not me. I was still anticipating an answer.

"Well, is it good?" I rephrased my question and he looked at me blankly.

A good 3 minutes went by.

"Oh sorry, I still can't taste. I still have to get used to it before my sense of taste comes back," He smirked, as if knowing that it'll hit me straight to the ego.

I slammed my hand on my table, "Duan, you little piece of-!!"

Kriiiiiiing!!

The next subject starts.
