Chapter 24: Spill

"Hello, Rezar," Duan started as he stepped in front.
Rezar put on a questioning look, "Who are these people?" He asked Teacher Julie.
She shrugged and let Duan continue speaking instead.
"I'm Duan. A headless rider." Duan hissed out, his red eyes blazing, "And I believe you have my head."
Rezar stared, raising his other brow, "What kind of prank is this?"
Suddenly, shadows enveloped Duan's form, swirling in a black hurricane, before it stopped and there stood his large, bulky and headless self with his pitch black horse.
Rezar dropped his belongings, face pale, and then he tried to sprint back from the scene. Luckily, John and Klyde were fast enough to block his way and pin him on the spot with both boys holding him on each arm.
Rezar apparently had a small build, not totally an athlete, but more of a slightly malnourished guy. If he knows how to use that build, he would've been agile and quick on his feet.
And he would've escaped.
But that wasn't the case. I wondered just how was he useful to the hijacking of the truck if he isn't a nimble robber.
"W-what are you doing?! This isn't funny, Julie!" He yelled as he struggled to break free but to no avail.
Maam Julie readjusted her glasses and gave a pointed look at him, "I should be asking you that,"
"Do you know what made the Headless Rider come to our place?" Asked Penny beside me, giving a slight motion towards Duan.
"He-headless rider?... That's nonsense- it must be a costume...!"
"Nope."
Duan took a step towards him. It echoed around the area and sent chills up his spine. We weren't affected though, probably to the fact that we are immune or just got used to it.
Rezar panicked again, trying to step back but our boys were holding him in place, "You're not real! You can't be..!" He said continuously.
Duan held out a hand and the shadows around him manifested into a long, thorned whip. The same whip he uses to slice out the eyes of those who sees him.
"Don't try to deny it." Was all he said before raising it up in a threatening manner.
Rezar's eyes widened, mouth agape in a silent scream, his legs shaking. The sight before him was probably really terrifying, but we couldn't tell. It's a matter of perspective, I guess.
"A-alright...! Alright! I'll cooperate! What do you want?!"
I smirked and nodded at John. He signaled for Klyde and they both let him go, letting him collapse to his knees.
Duan returned his whip into the shadows and faced Maam Julie. She approached Rezar and said, "We'd like you to come with us."
Rezar nodded with no hesitation. Even with shaky legs, he followed us into the still-constructing building and we sat down amongst the rubble.
"So... Y-you're really a Headless Rider?" Asked Rezar, fiddling with the pages of his books.
"Sent to wreck chaos and end humanity for the sake of finding my head? Yes I am."
Duan was back to his human form to look less intimidating and so that he can question properly without making the poor guy run away on instinct.
"Your... Head?"
"I believe you know where it is?"
Rezar made a look, "W-why would I? I'm not even-"
"Truck 405 of Skan lines. It was carrying artifacts from abroad to be used here to make a museum." I said.
Rezar immediately shut up, so I let Penny continue, "And you're one out of five of the suspects that the government doesn't want the public to know."
"Are we correct?" John slung an arm on the guy's shoulders, shooting him a knowing smirk.
The suspect clenched his teeth and shook him off before glaring at us, "How do you know?"
"Sources."
His eyes widened and gave an accusing look, "You're also the same- illegally hacking into government files!"
"A little sacrifice is needed to find his head. Unfortunately, the government is making more deaths and blaming it on him! Do you know how stupid that is?"
Klyde patted me on the shoulder, "Calm down..."
"Not unless he tell us where the head is now! Everyone's getting hurt and they're just making it worse!"
"Jeffy," Duan sighed and gave me a blank look.
I don't know what he meant with that look but I shut my mouth anyways. Still, I was frustrated and I have so many things to say to him, but it has to wait.
"Now, do you know which one of your comrades have Duan's head?" Maam Julie asked.
Rezar huffed and crossed his arms, "No."
"How could you NOT know?!" I yelled.
Rezar already felt calm, something that we weren't expecting, "I only did research on our target. I didn't participate in the taking."
My eyes widened and my anger dissipated. We all fell into silence for a while.
John broke it with a question, "So which one of you have it?"
"I told you, I didn't take it and-"
"I said WHICH ONE of you." John added a smirk aimed even to us, "You know your buddies,"
Rezar stared at the concrete floor, brows furrowed in aggrevation. Then he sighed, "Are these the kids you're teaching, Julie?"
It was Maam Julie's turn to cross her arms, "Yeah. Got a problem?"
"N-no... They're just as good as you." He sat up straight, fixing his back, before looking at us with a normal face, "I guess it's out of the bag, huh?"
Hearing those words, I immediately took out my phone and put it on voice record. He didn't notice it as I put it back in my pocket and sat beside him.
"I hope you're not planning on taking them all on. You guys are dead meat."
"Oh don't worry. We'll just take the head and let the police deal with them."
"That mean's I'm included."
"Of course."
Rezar sighed again. It must be aggrevating dealing with us, but that's our specialty. He opened his envelope file, pulled out a stack of papers, flipped through the edges and pulled out one.
"It's either with Alfred or Michaele." Then he paused, "I guess you know who those are already."
"Alfred's in jail somewhere, right?" Klyde asked, "What about Michaele?"
"He's a doctor in Pangasinan."
Rezar nodded, "He probably took the human parts because, well, he is a doctor."
"So the head is with him!"
"I guess."
I sighed in relief, "We finally have a solid lead!"
"I just said, I guess." Rezar stood up and fixed his things.
Maam Julie followed him, "I guess that's all for now,"
We all stood up and followed them out. Rezar was already walking off while we were helping ourselves on Duan's horse and chariot.
Suddenly, we heard him speak, "A little hint. He's coming here for a seminar next week."
I smiled at him, "Thanks!"
