CHAPTER 17: Supposed to Go

.

.

It's been a week since we last had contact with Kuya Damus.

Meaning, still no clue as to how will we create contact with Alfred.

Meanwhile, I busied myself with studies, gathering information from Francis and Raham once in a while, but it's usually Duan who goes out to talk with them.

I think Duan is getting along really well with them. I guess I really am not a social person since I can't keep a conversation too long and the awkward silence pushes my friends away. It's better if I stay alone because I feel more of me that way.

"You're just putting your guard up too much," I remember Penny say to me, giving me that look that I knew was really stating the truth.

"Yeah," I muttered as I stopped staring at the ceiling fan, sitting up and looking at the time.

It's 7:30 am. Sunday.

I looked at my study table where my books were neatly piled up, and I recalled that I just finished the last of my assignments last night.

So today, I'm free.

And currently bored.

Suddenly, my phone rang and I immediately picked it up, anticipating something to kill time with.

"Up and awake already?" Came Zeige's voice from the other line.

"You know how early I wake up-"

I was cut short when he finished my statement, "Even through weekends. Yeah, yeah,"

There was a hint of sarcasm in his voice, but that's what makes arguing with him fun.

I leaned back on the headboard, "So, what's the news?"

He was silent, probably arranging his words, before stating, "Wanna come over at my place later?" I heard shuffling for a while before he continued, "I got the new Disgaea* game,"

"Oh! Seriously!" I hopped up, staring at my phone excitedly, "Sure! I'll come by at 10!"

"See ya there,"

Then he hung up. I was really excited, finally finding something worthwhile to do instead of loitering around and boiling in such a warm Sunday.

I spent the next hours eating and cleaning the house. My parents are currently in the province, coming back after 3 days, and Jel is sleeping over at a friend's place. I even trimmed the backyard a bit and gave our dog, Shiro*, a bath.

When the clock striked 10, I was prepared. It doesn't matter if I come late or not, Zeige will already be playing the game without me anyways, so I decided to take my time in going there.

When out of the blue, "Jeffy?"

I turned back, slightly alarmed, "Duan! Don't scare me like that!"

Duan was crouched there at the windowsill like a dog, eyeing on me like one as well. This time, he was wearing a large, black fur-trimmed jacket that also had a hood that he usues quite rarely due to the warm weather.

Yes, headless riders feel heat.

He tilted his head to the side, before smiling, "There's a horse stable near the park. You wanna come see it?"

I forrowed my brows, "Sorry, Duan. Maybe next time," I said while putting on my jacket.

I was wearing a simple white shirt with blue jeans and my converse shoes, plus the red jacket that I just put on. My hair was down, still wet from the bath 20 minutes ago.

I rushed downstairs, grabbing my duffle bag in the process, and Duan followed me down.

"Going somewhere?" He asked, blocking my way.

"Yeah. I'll be out for a while," I can't help but flash a grin that he somehow gave a scowl at.

"Where to?"

I turned to put on my shoes while I said, "Zeige's place,"

But as I was about to slip it on, a sharp grab forced me on the wall, making me drop my bag. I stared eye-wide at the teen infront of me, "Duan-?"
