 CHAPTER 4: Late Night Again

-----------------

The following days were terror-filled for the residents in Irisan. The news about the headless rider lurking during the night frightened everyone to the point that there would be absolutely nobody on the streets at 6. Even out at town, the security was tighter. The news revolved around it and the 5 victims who were all decapitated and marked with its insignia. The victims were all high school students, male, and were quite popular for their age. Some people say it was their punishment for fame. But others say that the Headless rider is looking for its head, which can be anybody’s, and it probably prefers handsome ones at that.

“That’s stupid,” I murmured to myself as I sneaked under the waiting shed, wearing a black turtle neck under a maroon shirt and black jeans plus my Converse and a knapsack. I checked my watch and smiled. ‘Hah, I actually brought a watch this time’

“You’re early,”

Somehow, I wasn’t really startled. Zeige came up behind me, grinning as he set his bag on the ground. He had black hair slicked back, but with a couple of strands on his face and impossible purple eyes. He was wearing a black, long-sleeved polo, jeans and his black Air Jordan shoes. Zeige had been a close friend of mine since, like, forever. And he practically knows everything about me, even those that I do not know myself, somewhat like my alter ego or something. I find it creepy.

“It’s only 8,” He said.

“It’s the same,” I huffed, crossing my arms, “And you’re awfully early yourself,”

“I knew you’d be lonely. So I came early too,”

I rolled my eyes at him. Really this guy. We spent the next few moments waiting and talking about things in school. Though he's already in college and I'm still in high school there are still a couple of similarities here and there. Above us, the crescent moon illuminated trails of light and made the cold atmosphere bearable.

That was until the clock struck 9 and a familiar noise rang in my ears.

"It's here...!" I whispered, grabbing Zeige's sleeve and shoving both of us against the back of the post, hoping not to attract any attention to the oncoming Dullahan.

The noise got nearer until it stopped just a couple of meters from the waiting shed, with its back turned on us. It seemed to be inspecting the school's facade.

Looking for prey.

I slipped my camera out of my bag silently, hoping to capture this close-up encounter and make millions out of it on Youtube, but Zeige had pushed it down while shaking his head in disagreement.

'The camera will make noise, plus there's light from it!' He glared at me.

'The horse doesn't have eyes on its butt, so let me!'

'Nor do you have the ability to ressurect yourself when you get killed! Now hand me the camera!'

'Y-you just want the fame all to yourself, don't you!'

'What?! No!'

Our silent eyecontact conversatio probably went like that while I struggled to keep the camera with me and Zeige trying to pry it away. And just like any fight over an object in the face of great danger, the camera slipped out of my hands and landed on the ground with a noise that only plastics could make.

I yelped when the headless rider turned towards the noise- towards us- and Zeige pushed me down, arm locked around my head, as if trying to blend in with the shadows. The horse strode towards the shed, sniffing, until I saw it come up on my bag. My eyes widened when I saw it rummage its mouth through it, and suddenly pull out my tuna sandwich.

"Wait! NO!"

Time stopped.

The small gap gave my brain time to process the stupidity that I just did. Zeige even took the liberty to whack me upside the head.

"Idiot!"

The horse wailed, stomping its front limbs and the rider bringing out its shadow-like whip. I felt courageous all of a sudden when I remembered all the research I did about it.

"Zeige, record this!" I threw the camera at him and he gave me a weird look.

"What the hell are you planning?!"

"I know its weakness!" I dashed towards it and stepped infront of it, "Make sure to get all of this!"

The Dullahan stood there, looking slightly irritated and dumbfounded at the same time, though I really can't see if it makes expressions due to having no head, but it did flinch when I swiped my hair back.

"So it is true," I stepped towards it slowly, and it backed up, "Dullahans are afraid of gold,"
