Chapter Nineteen
Darius put down his home phone and turned to me. “Would you mind if we go up and watch Prema for Angel Kat? She wants to run out and doesn’t want to take her daughter along with her.”
I hopped up from the couch with a smile. “I wouldn’t mind one bit. I love that little girl. She’s so cute.”
“My goddaughter is that and more.” Darius adored Prema very much and he looks so amazing talking about her. He would be an amazing dad one day with his own kids. Why did I want to give him that? For him to be a father? That was going a bit too far right now. Too soon for us I think.
I grab my sketchpad, some pencils, and my Primacolor pencils before we both head out the door and to the elevator. Prema nearly flew into Darius’ arms when we entered Angel Kat’s place. It is the most touching and the most adorable thing ever to see her run and jump into Darius’ arms with her little wings moving, trying to fly.
“How are you today princess?” Darius touched her nose making her giggle.
“Vewy well Uncy Dar Dar.” She smiled brightly and kissed his cheek with a big wet pop. I bit back giggles at Prema calling Darius Uncy Dar Dar. I’ll have to file that one away for another time.
“Hey Prema. Look who I brought with me.” Darius turned slightly
“Auntie Pash-ence!!” Prema beamed as she struggled in Darius’ arms as she stretched her arms to me. We all laughed and Darius handed her over. She rested comfortably against my side on my hip. She leaned her head on my shoulder and hugged me the best she could.
“Thanks guys for helping out.” I looked over and saw Angel Kat coming out of a bedroom braiding her hair. She smiled seeing Prema on my hip. “She really likes you.”
I grinned and set my stuff down on the coffee table. “I like her too.” I said bouncing Prema on my hip.
“Well. Darius you know where everything is. I should be gone only a couple of hours.” She walked up to me and Prema. “And you little munchkin, be nice to Uncle Darius and Aunt Patience while mommy is gone. Okay?”
“O-tay. I wuv you momma.”
“I love you too baby.” Angel Kat kissed Prema’s forehead before turning to Darius and hugging him. “Thank you both.” She smiled at me and winked before she went to the balcony. I watched in awe as she jumped to the railing and propelled herself into the sky.
The three hours went by blissfully well. Prema got horse back rides from Darius who the funniest horse ever. Prema even made him tackle me as I was picking some toys up from the ground. We were all giggling as Darius laid on top of me with Prema on his back like a backpack.
I watched a kid show with Prema on my lap as Darius made lunch for us. Prema and I sang along to the songs on the show though I had no clue what the words were. She would correct me all the time. Darius just chuckled from the kitchen.
The whole afternoon was so fun. I felt like I was so much a part of their tight knit group that was like a family. This was what I had been missing for so long. The deep connection with others. To help them when they needed me and they help me when I needed it. The giving that I never really could do with Mark. That was a whole lifetime ago now. It was gone and I never want it back.
Angel Kat came back just after I put Prema down for a nap. “Not too much trouble was she?”
“Nah. Patience was a natural at getting Prema to eat her veggies.” Darius smirked at me. I blushed at his goating. It wasn’t anything special. I just added a dash of sugar and Prema was all for the veggies.
