Chapter Seven
“Here. Let me get that off of you.” Darius was behind me taking the cloak off my shoulders after he had undone the clasp. It had taken us no time at all getting to his place.
His place was a penthouse just a few floors down from Darien and Angel Kat’s like he had said to Darien. The main room was not as large as theirs but still bigger than Mark’s. His balcony was not so large either, but I liked it nonetheless. Mail littered the bar overlooking his kitchen. Dirty coffee cups filled the sink and the coffee pot itself needed cleaning. Overall though, his place was clean.
“Let me show you around.” He took my hand and guided me to a room off to the right. “This is my office slash guest room. I’ll stay in here as I tend to fall asleep at my computer anyways.”
His office had a futon along one wall and a desk along the opposite wall. The desk had piles of files and hand written notes all over. His computer was a laptop with several portable hard drives attached to it. Pens and CDs were stuck every which way randomly in the pile of papers.
He took me to the other side of his place to a modern style bedroom. “This is the master and you can take it while you are here.” His voice carried the smile that was on his face.
His bedroom had a sleek platform bed with sconces on either side of it. A mirrored wall just like Angel Kat’s bedroom. A flat screen TV opposite the bed and a small two shelf DVD display underneath the TV. There were photos sitting onto of the DVD shelf. Mostly of Darien and himself. A few with Angel Kat and Prema in them. All looking very happy.
What caught my eye most of all was the painting opposite the wall with the mirrors. The painting of a city scape in rich colors. The painting showed a brilliant city full of life and promise. The street and buildings of blue- and green-greys with the sky holding so many colors that it almost glittered like stones.
I sat on the bed disbelieving the picture before me. He has one of my works in his bedroom? “Its beautiful, isn’t it? I went to a gallery showing for this one artist and I just had to buy this one when I saw it. She had captured the city how I see it.” He chuckled. “I heard only...”
“Seven people have only ever bought any of her works.” My throat was thick with emotion. He had to buy this piece when he saw it? He saw the city like this too? Wow.
“You know her?”
The door rang before I could even think about telling him it was my work. I was the artist of this piece. He left me to answer the door. I stayed where I was as I heard footsteps coming toward the bedroom, but stopping to put boxes down near the door and never coming into the bedroom.
I just sat and listened, too afraid to leave the bedroom and be seen like this. Wings and a tail. I mindlessly played with my tail looking at my painting and remembering the nights I stayed up working on it. Mixing the colors. Dipping the paint brush in the oil paint. Scoffing at each of my mistakes. Taking my time adding my signature before I put into the gallery showing.
“Darius loves that painting too.” I twisted around to see to see Darien Price smiling at me. He tilted his head to the side. “I notice you haven’t spoken very much. Are you star struck?”
I giggled and nodded. “I’ve never really been good around famous people. I become very shy and withdrawn thinking there was no way I could measure up.”
He chuckled. “You know its not about status with us but who we really are.” He smiled brightly. “And I think you will fit in very well with us.” His smile faded till he looked sympathetically at me. “How are you dealing with everything?”
