Chapter Twenty-Two
I drifted to a blissful sleep as Darius draped a sheet over me before leaving me with a sweet kiss on my lips. My body relaxed as my mind went to a dream. My dream was so full of color. Just as colorful as one of my paintings. The colors seem to sparkle. There was a light about this dream that seemed to radiate from my soul.
I sat by the beautiful turquoise ocean that stretched out forever. The sand I sat on was white and gold and silver. It reminded me of Angel Kat’s wings. Even the feel was as soft as one of my feathers.
I stood up and twirled around loving my dream that Darius helped me have. I stopped when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned and saw the man again. His face was sadden. Regret stained his features.
I opened my mouth to speak, but he dropped to his knees and hugged my waist. “Please forgive me sister.” He looked up at me on the verge of tears. “I didn’t know I was hurting you. Please. Can we just talk? I wish to know why you want to push me away. Why are you unhappy with me?”
I relaxed and felt bad for him. He really didn’t know he was hurting me before. “You could start by calling me Patience.” I decided to let him stay for a bit. “And if I start to feel uncomfortable...”
“I’ll leave immediately.” He said quickly before I could finish.
I grabbed his hands and he let me move to sit next to him. “What is your name so I can stop call you the man?”
He made a straggled laugh. “Targ. Like the American physicist and author. He did a lot of research in ESP. I choose the name because that's what I was studying before I changed. ESP always fascinated me.” He snapped his head to me with an apologetic look. “Sorry. I’m rambling.”
I smiled at him. “It’s alright. If I hadn’t gone into art, I think I would have studied something along those lines.”
He snapped his fingers together. “You’re an artist. That's why this seems familiar. It reminds me of this one artist a friend of mine bought a piece from. Her name was Patience too.”
I bit back a smile. “Do you remember the artist’s name?”
Targ hung his head. “No. It was beautiful though. And I don’t have contact with that friend anymore because of the change.” He sighed after he paused for a moment. “Do you mind not telling anyone about us talking? I don’t want them making sure we never talk.” He looked at me with pain in his eyes. “And I am truly sorry for hurting you. You were my first assignment for finding someone’s location.”
“Is that why you need work?”
He made a strangled laugh and nodded. “My mate is usually the only one I talk to this way. Once and a while one of our siblings is having trouble adjusting and agrees to chat like this for privacy.”
“Mate? Like a girlfriend?”
Targ smiled. “More like wife. She’s my one and only.” His smiled faded. “Father told me about a guy where you used to live said you didn’t live there anymore. Father said he actually sounded pissed hearing your name.”
I sighed. “That would be Mark. My EX-fiance.” I looked up to the sky which darkened a bit. “He cheated on me and blamed me then ended our engagement. That was right before the accident.” I looked to Targ. “That was the darkest moment in my life.” Then I smiled happily and the whole dream started to sparkle again. “Then I met Darius. I am the happiest I have ever been in my life.”
“You’re really happy where you are?”
I smiled brightly. “Beyond words.” And I didn’t need words. My dream was speaking volumes. “I do like talking to you Targ. If ever you need to find someone, just talk to them first. Spend a few days to get to know them. Find out if they need rescuing.”
Targ smiled and looked down. “I’ll keep that in mind.” He looked back at me. “When can we speak again?”
“If I feel up for it, how about in the afternoons.”
“Afternoons your time. I’ll try and be there.” He stood up holding my hand. “I’ll go and leave you to your dream.” He bowed and slipped his hand from mine. He vanished instantly. Just poof, gone.
I sighed and knew I had to tell someone. Angel Kat. She was right up stairs and someone who I could talk to. Someone who should know about this conversation. Someone who should be aware of future conversations. A girlfriend like person. Someone I could confide in completely. She was Angel Kat after all. The one and only protector of the city and leader of all creations that follow her.
I laid back on the feather soft sand and watched the colors of the sky swirl and shift about. This kind of dream has been happening more and more. A dream from my paintings. The loose brushstrokes effect with a few tight strokes to define certain areas. The way the edges of everything play off each other to help establish the different areas and surfaces. Similar in a way to Van Gogh’s work, but more modernized.
I sighed thinking that I was going to wake soon. Then I smiled. I was going to wake to Darius. I could already smell his coffee. The strong, bitter fragrance. The harshness of it on my senses, but the allure of it to my lips. I am defiantly cleaning that pot soon so I can drink some coffee.
My dream slowly faded away gracefully as I breathed deeply in reality. I opened my eyes and smiled at the sweet, well not sweet, smell of coffee. I stretch and giggled at myself for purring. I was just that happy that I woke purring.
“Well miss sleepy head, I was about to wake you up.” Darius leaned against the doorframe sipping his cup of coffee smiling. He looked gorgeous like always with his muscles showing through that tight t-shirt of his. His legs cladded in low rise jeans and his feet bare. His hair tousled just right to make him look so damn sexy.
I crawled to the end of the bed and raise my butt in the air tossing my tail back and forth. I was purring loudly with the look that I was about pounce on Darius. He raised an eyebrow at me. “Down kitty. I have coffee.” He smirked at me. “We can do that later babe.” I pouted raising up as my tail fell. Darius came over and lifted my chin up more. “I promise that later you can pounce on me and if you want, I’ll pounce right on back.” He gave me a tender kiss. “Now, get showered and we’ll grab something to eat before going to the park.”
I pouted as I got up, but giggled when Darius smacked my butt. He laughed as he walked out of the bedroom. For the first time, I left the bathroom door unlocked. There was no point anymore. The reason in the first place was for my privacy and so Darius couldn’t join me. But now Darius and I were completely together, there really was no point.
Then I remembered Keith. “Damn it!” I put my forehead on the tile wall.
The bathroom door banged open. “Patience! What’s wrong?”
“Keith is going to kill us.” I pushed off the wall and let the water fall down my body again. I opened the glass door a bit. “Sorry if I worried you.”
He smirked a bit as he tilted his head to the side. “I don’t mind if I get to see such an amazing view.”
I opened the door more letting some of the steam billow out. I hugged the side of the glass frame with my leg hiked up the frame a fraction. “Care to join me?” I asked as my hair clung to my arms and back. I knew what I was doing and I so wanted to be naughty. Darius was pulling so many new sides out of me.
“God I wish I hadn’t earlier.” He swallowed hard. “You play dirty girl. I think you should stay in there longer.” He turned around and looked over his shoulder. “Maybe you should make that a cold shower.”
“Oh. But I want to stay nice and hot for you.” I watched as Darius shivered.
“You are definitely a girl after my own heart.” He sighed as he closed the bathroom door. I smiled as I went back to my shower. I like the back and forth we do with each other. It felt so fun and like it could be something I could do everyday of my life.
