Chapter Twenty-Seven
Lightning struck all around as their dream took shape around me. Turmoil. The person was in turmoil. It was so dark and the only light came from the lightning. I was frightened as shit being here in this person’s dream. I took only a bit of comfort when I feel the familiar presence of that Parro fellow.
Slowly the sounds of sobs came to my ears and I ran toward the sounds. My heart pounding as the feeling of anguish was everywhere. I just ran and ran. Every step felt like it took an hour to take. My heart was sinking as it felt like I was never going to reach the one sobbing.
Finally after searching by following the sounds of sobs, I found her. Patience! She was curled up into a ball crying even in her dreams. “Oh Patience.” I slid to my knees beside her and pulled her to me.
“Targ?” Her voice cracked terribly against my chest.
“I’m here and Parro too. Don’t worry, we’ll get you back to Darius. I promise!”
She looked up at me. “How can Parro be here too? He’s back home.”
I moved her hair away from her face. “I tried to get there to warn you. I tried last night to enter your dream but couldn’t. I’m sorry. So very sorry I failed you sister. I was an hour and a half too late.”
Slowly her dream was changing. Lightning was fading away and the moon was coming out of the blackness. The new light helped show me that we were in a vast field of grass. Nothing else was here. Just us, the field, and the moon. The beauty of her dreams was gone. There was still a bleakness of this place that was tearing my heart just being here.
“They did an ariel extraction, didn’t they?” She nodded as she no longer sobbed but sniffed and tears still filled her eyes staining her cheeks.
Damn!!! That means they could be anywhere. They must have called in a favor with the military for that. Must have said something to them about finding a rogue creation that needs to be captured. Father might have stooped that low for Patience. His creation that happens to be a goddess class.
“I promise we’ll find you. I’ll help them with every resource I have available to get you back to your soul mate.”
She pulled back surprised. “What?”
“You didn’t know?” I searched her eyes and only saw how shocked she was. “Darius. He’s your soul mate. Your complete other half. The one that when found, you can’t live without. They die, you feel empty and stop living. When love is fully realized between soul mates, your given your gift.” I sighed as I looked down. “I left my soul mate to try and save you.”
“You did that for me? Why?”
My throat felt thick and closed a bit while I talked. “I couldn’t just sit there and know what they were planning. I had to try even at the expense of my own heart.” I looked up to her. “You found what took me a year to find. A lifetime really. A family and love. I stayed because of Pana. My soul mate. But my sense of doing what was right took me from her.” I looked up to the moon that looked lonely. “I hope she will forgive me when this is all over.” I sighed. “Darius still hates me, but I will get you back to him.”
A few stars spotted the sky. “She will forgive you because she loves you and knows you were trying to help me.” I smiled as a few tears fell down my cheeks. Patience’s dream was changing before my eyes, but still didn’t have the spark it usually had.
Suddenly Patience’s dream was fading. She tried to grab on to me and stay, but dreams don’t work like that. When someone wakes you, your dream vanishes and you wake. I wished I could have stayed with her and comfort her more.
I opened my eyes and put a hand to my cheek. I cried for real. Guess that proves that one theory I had. When I’m not actually in my dream, I cry in real time. I can’t think of that now. My sister has been taken and I need to help them get her back.
“How is she?” Darius asked through clenched teeth.
I swallowed and sat up. They must have moved me to the couch. Parro helped me move. “Better now, but still hurting.” I ran my hands through my hair. “They may have woken her up because they had arrived at their destination. Maybe next time she could give some hints to where they have taken her.”
“Lets hope so.” He looked away. “Thank you for helping her.”
“No need to thank me. The stars came out when she heard your name. I reassured her I would get her back to you and the stars came out in her dream.” I saw his chest heave.
“She loves me that much?” He breathed between heaves.
“How could she not? You’re her soul mate. She loves you with every ounce of her being.”
He looked at me shocked. “Really? I thought it was just me having those kinds of feelings.” He sat slowly down on the stool that was next to him. He reached behind him and shot back a shot of scotch. It looked like he was having a hard time breathing. He took a bottle of scotch that was near him and refilled his shot glass again before downing that one like the first.
I was about to say something when Parro nudged me and shook his head at my thoughts. “Patience is the first woman he has really truly loved. Let him take some time. We may not be able to do anything till tomorrow anyways.” My heart is breaking for him. I am here away from Pana of my own free will. Darius is separated by force. Its just so unfair for him. “Isn’t that why you’re here? To get them back to each other?” I nodded frowning a bit as Darius shot back his fourth shot of scotch.
“Alright. I’m limiting you to one shot every half hour. That way it lasts longer.” He must have been the one who showed up last at Patience’s place.
“That would be Darien Price. Best friend to Darius. Be nice to him. He’s Angel Kat’s husband and soul mate.” Something flashed through Parro’s mind. “There might be another way to find Patience.” Everyone stopped what they were doing before to listen. “Remember when Dr. Sabers was straggling Angel Kat. Darien, you raced to her though you didn’t know where exactly she was. You just went to where you felt her. We could somehow do that now!”
“But I don’t feel a pull. My heart is just hurting.” Darius tried to go for the bottle.
“Uh ah! It hasn’t been half an hour yet.” Darien moved the bottle farther away.
“He’s numb from the alcohol. We would have to let it to run its course and see if he feels it then.” Parro leaned back. “Its a long shot that it will work. What happened before was quiet a bit closer.”
“There is a chance I’m not able to, then what? We wait till something we can go on? What if we could never get her back?” He slumped down to the floor and cried. This was the first time I had seen someone as rugged as him cry like that. “What would happen to me without her? I can barely breathe as it is not having her within twenty feet of me.”
I knew exactly what he’s going through. The pain of not having your soul mate with you always hurts, but I have had time away from mine off and on. I also knew she was coming back. To not know must be excruciating. That I had never felt myself. I need to get her back to him as soon as possible.
