Chapter Twenty-Six

Targ

God I hope I made it in time. I thought to myself as I made it up to the floor that this reporter lives on. The elevator doors slide open and I race to the door. I rang the bell and got no answer. The door man said that he was still here. I checked the door and it was locked.

There was no other recourse. No time to wait either. I pulled out my keypad hacker and hacked the keypad to gain entrance. I was glad when one of my brothers had showed me his new gadget. He was into electronics and loved learning about a new one. Thankfully this was a gadget he taught me how to use too. After a few moments, there was a audible click as the lock unlocked for me. I removed my hacker and opened the door.

The first thing that caught me and made my stomach turn was a man laying on the ground with an arm out toward the open balcony doors. The balcony doors were wide open and a chair moved from the railing. I ran over to him, moved him over, and sighed in relief. He was just tranquilized. But that wasn’t a good sign. That means they had Patience. I was too late.

I took the dart out of his neck and carried him over to a couch. I adjusted him so he was more comfortable when he woke up. I closed the front door to make sure no one came in. He would have wanted that. I hope.

I looked to the balcony and found a book laid on the floor with the wind turning its pages. I walked over and bent down to examine the book. A sketchbook. Patience’s sketchbook. She told me with the few times we talked during her dreams in the afternoons that she was an artist. And not just any artist. A master from the looks of these drawings.

I picked up the book and sat on a chair across from the man. I wonder if he is Darius. The same Darius Patience talks about all the time. She smiles so brightly when she talks about him. Even her dream brightens with her mood. She truly loves him with all her soul.

Now that Father has taken Patience, he will be in pain too if they are soul mates. Though he may lash out at me when he wakes, I will remain to help them find her. Father has gone too far with Patience. I even left my own soul mate to help right this wrong. Forgive me Pana for leaving you, but I had to for our sister. I had to follow my conscience and try to warn Patience. Of course I was too late.

I sat Patience’s sketchbook down on the coffee table and waited patiently for him to awaken. I will take any punches he throws at me no matter what. I will not fight back so he could see I am here to help. I hope he accepts my assistance though I doubt I can help too much. I maybe their only link to her right now. She could also give me clues to where they have taken her.

I waited over an hour and he still had not stirred. I held my head down with my fingers buried in my hair. My patience was waning the longer time elapsed. I was worried about Pana and Patience. Pana for hating me for leaving. Patience for her heart must be aching by how they took her away.

“Oh my head.” My head snaps up at his whisper. Slowly his hand touches his forehead but he doesn’t rise. He opens his eyes. “How did I get on the couch?” His eyes focused and he looked right at me. “YOU!!” Anger seeping from him as he tries to push off the couch.

“You should remain laying down. You’ll recover quicker.”

He didn’t listen to me as he swiftly got to his feet and lunged at me knocking the chair and us backwards. I made no move to flee him. I even stayed limp in the chair. My arms laying weakly on the floor on either side. His hands went to my throat but he didn’t squeeze. I doubt he has the strength for that just yet. Not after that tranquilizer.

“WHERE DID YOU TAKE HER?!?!” He snarled at me even though I knew he was fighting to gain some strength back.

“I didn’t take her. I came to try to warn her and you of Father’s plan. He’s become obsessed with Patience because of her class.”
