Chapter Twenty-Eight
Patience
“Come on. We’re here.” A gentle voice said shaking my shoulder. I didn’t want to wake. Targ was talking to me and I felt Parro there too. I felt comforted by being asleep with them there with me. I hope the next time I sleep they are both there again. They would help me feel close to Darius that way.
My heart breaks again thinking of Darius. He must be in so many pieces right now. Seeing me bound on the ground then tranquilized. What happened when he woke? How did he take Targ showing up? When did Targ show up?
My querying mind was squelched when I was hoisted up by a man who looked part wolf. He carried me bridal style. I didn’t struggle, but I did keep my eyes open to maybe able to tell Targ and Parro where I am. Its all I could do to help get back to where I know I belong.
“Father! Wait!” A woman came running up. She looked to be part yellow tiger with orange reddish hair. She stepped in front of Dr. Whitberg breathless. “Its Targ! He’s gone. Pana is saddened that he left suddenly without telling her where he was going and while she slept. She won’t leave her chambers.”
Dr. Whitberg spun around to look at me. “Blindfold her. Targ could enter her dreams and help those who had her.” Two men near me looked at each other uncertain then one stepped forward and placed a scarf over my eyes. I tried to move and give me some sort of view of the area. A small sliver of view was available to me through a small flap of fabric.
They started to walk and all I got to see was mountains all around the place. There was a huge building, but I couldn’t make it out. There was just too much fabric in front of my eyes.
“Father? Are we doing the right thing with our sister? And why would Targ disappear like that and leave his soul mate behind?” The woman’s voice came again. She was curious as I felt others around us were curious too.
“Targ has been corrupted somehow. He will realized his mistake and come home as she will understand that we are her family.” Dr. Whitberg stated very harshly to everyone present. Several looked unconvinced by his words. My skin crawled when he looked at me like I was a prize he just captured.
One thing I did notice was the small amount of snow on the ground. They must have taken me somewhere in the Northwestern part of the US. The snow hasn’t really fallen in the Eastern states yet this year. One more bit to tell Targ if they let me sleep that is now they know he is gone. I know I can trust him now knowing he tried to warn me before they got to me.
They took me to the third floor via a set of grand stairs that looked ornate though I couldn’t make out anything. There were pictures, paintings really, along the wall of the semi spiral staircase. But nothing I could make out through the fabric.
On the third floor, they walked into the last room before pulling the blindfold off me. Two remained in the room as the one carrying me set me on my feet and held me there. The two put a hand on a few straps that bound me. The one who carried me did the same to a few more straps.
All three pulled and quickly left the room when I was free. I stumbled to the floor freed, but tried to move through the door before it closed. I failed as it closed a mere fraction of a second before I got there. I clawed and rammed my shoulder into the door trying to get out. Thick metal was plated to the door.
“Please! Let me out. Let me go home!! Just release me and allow me to return to Darius!! PLEASE!!” I screamed trying to be heard. But no one listened. I pounded and prayed for them to release me for hours. No one heard my pleas. They acted deaf to my cries.
