Chapter Thirteen

Darius parked his bike in the underground garage of his office building. He graced my cheek as he took my helmet off for me. He seemed more comfortable around me since our kiss. He even seemed happier. Much more affectionate too.

As we walked into Darius’ work, he showed me around. He showed me his rarely used desk which was so much neater than the one at the apartment. I met his boss who was a delightful man that was a bit over weight. Though his boss never really got a good look at me because I still wore the cloak. Darius got both of us into his boss’ office before closing the door behind us.

Darius came up to me and undid one of my clasps. “There is one thing I have left out about Patience.” He helped me out of the cloak.

“She’s a creation?!?” His boss’ eyes were large as saucers.

“She wasn’t when Mark Darlene broke off their engagement. This happened unexpectedly.” Darius turned to his boss. “None of this part is getting release to the media.”

“No. Of course not.” He looked away from me. “Does Angel Kat know of her? Does Mr. Darlene know she has been changed?”

“Yes to Angel Kat, no to Mr. Darlene.” Darius gestured for me to sit down in a seat in front of his boss’ desk. He took the seat next to me. “We are trying to figure out why she was created and who the doctor was that created her.” He smiled at me. “Though I am happy he injected her or she would have died that day.”

“Oh god! You fell for her!” We both snapped are heads to his boss. “Don’t look at me like that. It was so easy to noticed when you just looked at her.” He shook his head. “I knew it was bound to happen.” He smiled up at Darius. “But I am glad it did. You have been needing a good woman to help tame you.” He looked to me with an even bigger smile. “And you seem like such a strong woman. One that will match him completely in every way.”

Boop. “Mr. Stans. You’re eleven o’clock is here.”

Darius’ boss reached to the intercom button and pressed the biggest one. “Thank you Margery. Have them in the conference room and we’ll be in there in a moment.” He looked back over to me. “I think you should put your cloak back on before we go in there.” He cocked his head to the side. “Is your voice the same as before?”

“No sir. It's a bit higher and musical than before.”

“Alright. So we won’t have you speak very often.”

“Were you going to have me speak?”

“We were going to go off the hip so to speak.” He turned serious. “Mr. Darlene is very furious right now with our paper as he has been now denied to take any photos for us. I’ve also heard that several other newspapers as well as several magazines have cut him off as well. They found his action toward you in very poor taste and thus see his character being fake and dishonest.”

“He has never been dishonest with his work, just his personal life.” My voice was shy and I felt bad for Mark.

“You are a very wonderful woman.” He rose and we rose with him. “But this is his doing. He needs to know he should be honest in everything. A lesson to be learned I think.” Darius’ boss held out my cloak for me and adjusted it over my wings. “In the end, you are helping him far more than he deserves.”

“What’s the plan?” Darius asked as his boss opened his office door and gestured us through. Darius put my hood up before he let me go first.

“Like everything else... Follow my lead.” Darius’ boss smiled largely as he took point ahead of us. Darius put an arm around my waist and his other one went across his chest to hook around my upper arm which no longer hurt. I felt comforted with his touches. And to know he had feelings for me too helped more.
