A Night To Remember

Chapter 8

Our dinner started smoothly. We talked, laughed and me being teased is always there.
"So, Jake..... Hailey, when will you go back to the city?" My dad asked.

"I'm gonna be staying here for five days more uncle since I filed a vacation live but Hailey will go home tomorrow because she only asked a day absent." My dad nods his head in understanding.

"So you will go home alone tomorrow Hailey?" I asked. I am scared for Hailey traveling alone specially now that I discovered that vampires are true.

"Yes Flame, don't you worry about me, I am a careful driver" She said slightly whispers the last part afraid that Jake might hear it. We just laughed and raised our glasses for a cheer. Jake cleared his throat and asked if what happened to us. We just shake our heads and utters the word nothing.
We continued eating and finished a little late. I helped my mom and dad in keeping the plates, Hailey and Jake excused their selves and went upstairs to go packing.
"So Flame, how about you? When will you go back to the city? My mom asked.

" I really don't know yet mom" My thoughts went to Zire. It's almost a week since he showed up, I'm glad though, I hope that he will not show himself to me forever. I suddenly remembered about my parents conversation in the balcony this morning.
I looked at my dad and to my mom, debating if I'm going to ask or not about it, but I think this time is perfect.
" Ahmm, mom?" I stopped wiping the dishes and just staring at it.
"Yes, Flame?" She looked at me for a while then went back to her work.
"I heard you with dad talking about a girl in the balcony, ahmm....I am just curious if who this girl was?" I noticed my mom gasped while dad stopped his work then stares at me.
"Ohhh... I-It was j-just ..ahhmm...your classmate in elementary,Kellie, s-she died yesterday" my mom said with nervousness in her voice. She released a deep sigh and anxiously continued wiping the dishes.

"Why you just told me now?" I asked,my voice quivering. Kellie was my great friend aside from Jake. We grew up closed to each other. I had lastly seen her on the day of our graduation, because I went to the city and started to look for a job, since then, our communication stops. I've just heard that Kellie went abroad to work.

"We're sorry Flame, we didn't tell you because we don't want this to be added in your problem that you have right now. " I just nod my head and sits on the chair.

"Why did she die? What's the reason?"

"Actually Flame, the doctor that examined her says she died due to blood lost. The doctor saw a bit mark on her neck but the problem was they don't know where it came from. The mark was just too deep and they're sure that it is not an animal or insect bite because they haven't seen any sign that Kellie was attacked and her body don't have any other mark but only the one on her neck." My dad explained to me. My eyebrows knitted in confusion and suddenly remembered about Zire.

"Vampire" I didn't noticed that I said it aloud. I looked at my dad and his body tensed.
"I-It's impossible Flame, v-vampires don't exist." Dad said stuttering. "Don't tell me you believed that also Flame" Dad shakes his head and returned the rag that he's holding in the cabinet.
"Vampires are just in the movies and books Flame, they aren't true." My mom added.
I just nod my head in agreement. I know they won't believe me, so there's no point of pursuing this topic. If only they knew, if only they knew that their daughter is already one of those creatures. Creatures that once I believed that are only in movies and books.
"So, where's the funeral happening?" I asked trying to change the topic.
"It's in their house Flame" my mom answered.
"Is it okay with you mom and dad that I well go there tomorrow ?

"Yeah, sure Flame but only if you will bring Jake with you." Dad said.

"Okay dad, I will just asked Jake to accompany me tomorrow." Dad nods.

We finished our work and I then went to my room to brush my teeth. I looked at myself in the mirror and checked the mark. I wonder if the mark in my neck is the same with Killie. I really should go to the funeral and ask her parents the real reason of her death and to check the mark as well. I grabbed a towel then wiped my face. I went to my bed, turned off the light and sleeps.

The sound of my alarm wakes me. It is still 6 in the morning. I stood from my bed and went to the bathroom to have a shower. After I showered, I went downstairs and saw Jake preparing Hailey's things.

"Good morning Flame! How's your sleep?"

"Its fine Jake so, where's Hailey?" I asked.

"She's still in our room, she will be here in a minute" I sat down and watch Jake closed the bags. I remembered that I need to ask him to accompany me this evening to Kellie's funeral.

"Ahmm... Jake" He looks at me and sat down on the chair in front of me.

"Do you still remember Kellie?" I asked.

"Kellie? .......Kellie Hudson?" I nod my head and released a deep sigh.

"She's dead"
