A Night To Remember

Chapter 9

Jake was shocked as well when I told him about Kellie's death. He said, he will go with me to Kellie's funeral.
Hailey went back to the city after we ate our breakfast. She left early because Jake insisted it. Jake told Hailey that it is much safer to drive on a day than to drive at night.

I am now in my room, lying on my bed while reading a book. My plan this whole afternoon is just to read and read books . Jake is playing chess with dad. I stopped reading when my window suddenly opened and then sunlight flooded in my room. I screamed in panicked, I hurriedly covered my body with blanket and then ran inside the bathroom. I sat down on the cool tiles while still covering my body with blanket. I heard Jake calling my name, I opened my mouth but there's no voice coming out, my body and my mind was trembling with fear. This sickness is getting worst. I heard the sound of the window being shut then the sound of footsteps coming closer. I screamed as I heard someone opened the door, my body was still shaking with fear, I slowly raised my head and saw dad and Jakes worry faces. I ran to my dad and hugged him, tears started to fall.......
"T-thank you for coming dad, I-I thought......" Dad stops me from talking and just hugged me. When I started to relax, dad guided me to my bed and laid me down.
"Just sleep for now honey" my dad said. I didn't argue and just closed my eyes. I noticed that my body is too tired now.

Its already dark outside when I woke up. I remembered what happened this afternoon. I was so scared. It's still very hard for me to accept the truth. I was about to stand when the door of my room suddenly opened and Jake came in.
"How are you Flame?" He asked worriedly.

"I am better now Jake, s-sorry about what happened this afternoon. I-I was just too scared."

"I-I know Flame, just remember that I am always here for you.....always...." Jake said in a comforting tone.

"I know Jake, and thank you for that."

The door opened and my mom came in. She hugs me and asked if am I already okay. She also told us that the dinner is ready. We went downstairs together and saw dad already in the table. We ate and talked. I am glad that they didn't mentioned anything about what happened to me this afternoon.

"So Flame, are we still going to Kellie's funeral?" Jake asked.

"Oh, I really forgot about that Jake, of course we should go" I answered.

We finished our dinner and say goodbye to my parents. They just told us to go home before ten. We arrived at Kellie's house early. There are only few people who are here.. I looked around and haven't seen any familiar faces. Jake holds my hand and guided me inside the house, there I saw Kellie's parents. They're all wearing white.. Kellie's mom noticed us first then followed by her dad. They stood from their chair and went to us. They smiled but their eyes shows loneliness.
"Flame.... Jake.... How are you?" Kellie's mom asked. She hugs me then leads us to the chair. Kellie's dad excused himself and went to the other visitors.

"We're fine Auntie, ahmm...... Sorry that we just came here now. W-We just knew last night.... "

"It's okay Flame... I still can't accept that she's dead Flame and what's worst is we don't know the cause of her death." Kellie's mom said in a sad tone.

"What do you mean you don't know auntie? Jake asked curiously.

"We really don't know the real reason why she's dead Jake, the doctor only said that she lost lots of blood. He also saw deep bite marks on her neck but he don't know where it came from."

Jake gasped,I looked at Jake with curiosity.
"Are you fine Jake?" I asked. Jake nods his head then went closer to Kellie's coffin. I excused myself to Killie's mom and followed Jake.
"No!, this is not true" Jake uttered softly.
"What do you mean Jake" I followed Jake's eyes and saw the marks. I was right, her marks and mine are the same. We both turned our head when we heard Kellie's mom talked.
"Are you both okay?You look pale?"She asked. I bit my lip then turned my gaze to Jake. His face shows that he is in a deep thought.

"Y-Yes we're fine auntie...We're just a little bit tired" I said stuttering. I looked at my watch. It is already 9:30 pm.
"Jake I think we should go..." Jake looks at me and nods his head. We say goodbye to Kellie's mom. She invited us to eat snacks but we just declined it and went home.

We arrived at the house 5 minutes later. I watched Jake came out from the car. He was about to get in the house when I stopped him.

"Jake?........" Jakes eyes went to my hand that holds his wrist then looks at me. My mind was debating if I should be asking this question or not but my curiosity got the best of me.

"Are you a vampire?" I can feel Jakes body tensed.

"What are you talking about Flame? Of course not..... Are you insane? Where on earth you got that kind of question?" Jake said angrily. I looked at Jake feeling hurt and offended by his answers. I can't believed he's angry at me. It's just a question that is not hard to answer specially to humans like Jake.

"Why are you angry?........It was just a simple question Jake?" I said to him while trying to blink the tears away.

"You know Flame, I am sick and tired of your silly games" He snapped at me.

"Silly games, so you thought that everything happened to me are just some of my silly games Jake?" I yelled at him. My tears falls freely on my cheeks.

"Then why did you ask me that question?"

"Because I want to know your problem too Jake, b-because....... I don't want to see you feeling miserable just like I am.....we're friends Jake, best friend to be exact.... It hurts for me to see you scared...... I'm done with you protecting me.... I think it is time for me to protect you...... to comfort you........ " I was almost out of breath when I finished it. I wiped my tears with my hand. My heart stopped beating when I heard what Jake said. He uttered the words softly but it's so clear in my ears.
