Twenty-five
School after what happened was horrible.
After exchanging my books, I would walk towards Raven's locker without realizing it. By the time she was in my view, I stood frozen in the middle of the hallway; staring at her exchange her books before closing the locker shut and walking down the hallway towards her class. She didn't even glance at me or anyone. She walked down the hallway like she normally did, dodging students while on her way.
I was debating whether I should go after her but something stopped me so I didn't move. I just stared at the black haired girl disappearing down the hall.
Students past by me; looking at me weirdly as they went on with their day. A hand slapped itself on my shoulder and Alex's face block my view of the hallway ahead.
"Dude, what's wrong? Why are you standing here in the middle of the hallway?" He asked. Concern were in his eyes as he stared back at mine. When I didn't answer, he checked his watch and confusion laced his face.
"Aren't you suppose to be with Raven?" With the mention of her name, a stab was felt to my heart.
"It's her, isn't it?" Alex asked. All I could do was nod.
We skipped first period and sat on the bleachers as I tell him what had happened the other night.
He was quite for a moment and all I could hear was the sound of wind blowing and the some cars passing by.
"She has a point." He said. "We might not be the best people to be in a relationship and yes, we don't know what the future holds. Since you've met Raven, you've changed, in a good way. I don't see you with a different girl every week, you're much more happier and zones out quite a few times probably thinking about her." He chuckled the last part.
"Honestly, for many people it may seem like 'you're giving up your ways' is an act just to get her but I know you, you genuinely like Raven and you did give up your ways but you did it without realizing it. Not many people see that and that includes Raven. Sure we don't know what the future holds, but we shouldn't be thinking of the future too much because what really matters is right now. What's happening right now is what you should be focusing on. Make good memories now and look back at it and smile in the future." Alex finishes. He'll be incredibly wise when we need it.
I nodded, processing everything he said. I did change, for the good. For her, for myself.
"But how do I let her see that I don't see nobody else but her?" I asked, staring at my hands.
"Give her time, you should have time to yourself too. You guys will find a way back and till then prove to her and others that you're not the guy you were before anymore. Don't let your past define you, Trev." Alex answers. He was right.
We learn from mistakes and it makes us who we are today.
