Twenty-two
I wanted to stay that night with her at the hospital but she told me to go home. Even though I had apologized a million times, I still felt incredibly guilty.
My mother came home that night and continued to lecture me about what I have done. I stayed silent because I know it was entirely my fault.
Monday came and I got ready incredibly quick today. I wanted to see Raven desperately that day.
I parked my car and grabbed my bag before I got out. Before I could even walk into school, Amber stopped in front of me.
"So how was your date?" she asked, crossing her arms.
I sighed. "Why do you want to know?" I asked in a boring tone. I tried to walk past her but she stepped in front of me again.
"Because I know your lying." She said smugly. How dare she accuse me of lying? It wasn't a date of course, but I spend time with Raven that day.
I couldn't respond back because someone intertwined their fingers with mine and sparks were sent through it.
Raven.
She stood next to me with a blank look on her face as she stared at Amber. Her hair was let down today with the wind blowing it slightly; making it look like a perfect picture moment. She wore a white shirt underneath a leather jacket with dark blue jeans and her combats. Her bag was slung on her right shoulder.
"Get your hands off." Amber growled. She did looked a bit scary when she glared at Raven but Raven being Raven, was simply unfazed by her murderous look.
"Why should I?" Raven asked, raising an eyebrow. Her voice came out low and a little raspy.
"Because he's mine." She said through her clenched teeth.
"I'm not yours." I growled at her. She can't just go around and tell people that.
Amber was taken aback by my tone for a second but quickly covered it with a flirtatious smirk. "Oh come on, babe. We all know you're not really dating this trash."
Anger flooded through me when she called Raven a piece of trash. Raven voice cut me off before I could cuss Amber out.
"Oh sweetheart," she sighed. "As much as I want to correct you, I just can't stand spending my precious time proving something to someone like you." She tugged on my hand but Amber stopped her from moving anywhere.
"I'll make your life a living hell if you don't leave my man alone." Amber sneered at Raven.
"Fuck off." Raven and I simultaneous said. It wasn't planned and I was surprised at first but continued to glare at Amber. She looked angrily between Raven and I before stomping off to her friends.
Raven tugged on my hand and we both walked inside school. Instantly, whispers were heard as we past each student.
"Are the dating?"
"Wow, she's gorgeous."
"She's so lucky. I want to be her."
Of course everyone would think we're dating even just by us holding hands. One of Amber's friends was like the gossip queen. She knows about everything whether it was true or not. It wasn't like we planned to fake date. It came involuntarily that day in biology. Amber left me no choice but even if with me having a girlfriend, she still wouldn't give up. I wanted to make this real so bad but after finding out about her past, I know I should take it slow. Raven continued to walk as we approached my locker. She tried to pull away from my hand but I held it tighter. She looked up at me for the first time today and gave me a questioning look.
"I won't be long." I said to her as I used the other hand to open my locker. Raven stood next to me and looked around to the students that were giving us curious glances.
"How's your father?" I asked her. The guilt in me was still there and I wanted to make up to her in any way possible.
"He's still the same." She shrugged. Sadness filled her eyes as she looked at me briefly.
"Raven," I called her as I shut my locker door. "I'm really sorry for that day." I apologized for the millionth time. I gave her a gentle squeeze before taking a step closer to her. I could feel a few stares boring into us.
"Stop it, will you?" Raven rolled her eyes before looking up at me. "What's done is done."
I smiled at her, happy that she was very understanding. I stepped closer and placed a kiss on her forehead before stepping back.
"Come on before we're late to class." She smiled back at me before pulling me down the hall; towards her locker.
I sighed. I could get used to this.
