Fourteen

For the rest of the week, Raven was back to her old self, her cold self.

She rarely smiles, just like the time when I first knew her.

Our project was almost done and I tend to cherish the time I spent with her and try to make her to open up because the curiosity was drowning me.

It was Friday and I was playing some video games in my room when my father decided to barge in into my room with stacks of papers in his hands.

I got killed and had to restart the game. I groaned in annoyance when my dad placed the papers on my desk.

"Can I help you?" I asked him.

"This," he pointed to the stack of paper. "Are law schools application forms. Apply all of them by next week."

Before he could walk out of the door, I stopped him.

"About that." I said, stopping him dead in his tracks. "I don't want to go to law school."

He was shocked at first as he stood there speechless but then he burst out laughing.

"Great joke." He laughed, clutching his chest. "Don't forget to apply those." He said, pointing to the papers.

"I'm not joking. I'm not interested in going to law school." I said, confident this time. His face changed once again and this time, anger.

"You're going to law school and that's final." He said.

"I'm not going." I told him, getting angrier and angrier on every word.

"I'm paying for your education. So you are going." He said, raising his voice.

"Then I'll get a scholarship. Perhaps have a career in football." I told me. I was also interested in playing football professionally after I graduated. Several colleges and universities have called me, offering a scholarship.

"How dare you!?" his voice boomed through my room and also the house as I heard footsteps rushing upstairs and soon later my mother appeared at the door.

"What's going on here?" My mother asked, stepping inside the bedroom.

"Being a lawyer is what you want." My father said, fury and disappointment flashed through his eyes.

"No it's not. It's what you want. You planted that inside my head and I thought it was what I want but it's not." I stated. I proceeded to grab my shirt and jacket and marched out of the door.

"Don't you dare walk out!" my father shouted behind me. I continued walking as I heard my mother calmed him down and told him to let me go till I cooled off.

I snatched my keys by the door and walked out of the house. I went inside my car and put on my shirt on first as it was so cold outside. I started the car and wandered down the road.

Droplets of water dropped against the windshield as I drove pass our school. I gripped the steering wheel too hard as my knuckles turned white.

A lawyer is a great job but was not for me.

It was getting dark outside and I drove and drove till I calmed myself down. Somehow I ended up parked in front of Raven's apartment building.

The rain was pouring heavily right now and I had no choice but to run towards the door.

Counting to 3, I opened the car door and sprinted towards the building. My hair was slightly wet and only the shoulders of my grey shirt were wet.
