Game Over (Part 3)

"Don't even dare think about it" Lucy's voice shook but the dangerous tone behind it convinced Vanessa to not do anything stupid or reckless. So she stayed.

She stayed with Lucy holding her arm tightly while they both held on to Elena. She stayed when the SWAT team came rushing in with their helicopters, cars and jeeps. She stayed when they took John's unconscious body into custody. She stayed when the ambulance arrived and Elena was rushed to the hospital. She stayed behind while Zach, Luke, Viktor and Marie rushed to the hospital. She stayed to talk to the SWAT's head with Lucy and Duke. She stayed when the SWAT's head passed her his card complimenting her on her work and boldly offering a job. She stayed when John was brought back to consciousness and tortured to reveal the location of Zach's parents. She stayed through everything yet her mind registered none of it.

After learning about Zach's parents and where they were, Lucy and Vanessa went to retrieve them safely while Duke, Chris and Alyosha stayed behind with the SWAT team.

"Get out of your head" Vanessa heard Lucy say but she couldn't do what was asked of her. It felt as if someone had suddenly taken her away from her body but held her somewhere close from where she watched everything unfold.

When both the agents arrived at the said place, they took their guns out and carefully trudged into yet another abandoned warehouse. Rescuing Zach's parents didn't feel dangerous at all especially after everything they had just done. In fact it felt like one of their missions.

Right at the entrance they spotted two men, Vanessa didn't hesitate to shoot the one in her sight but she sensed a hitch beside her and waited for Lucy to take her shot but when she didn't, Vanessa took care of the other man too. She glanced over at Lucy to see what was wrong. Lucy never faltered. And right now she avoided Vanessa's gaze too, mumbling a quick 'sorry' she moved ahead. A few empty hallways later, Vanessa spotted another man smoking a cigarette, she was going to shoot him too but Lucy stopped her merely knocking the other man out. That irked Vanessa, another thought added to the millions already running through her head. But she let it go.

Both the girls reached Zach's parents who were beyond terrified and admittedly skeptical of two teenagers coming to save them claiming they were agents particularly when one of the two girls met them as the girlfriend of their son.

The party of four drove to the hospital where a happy reunion happened. Vanessa detached herself from there not being able to bear the happiness. Even as she tried scolding herself for being so bitter she couldn't help it so instead of risking the chance that anyone saw her being bitter she left the hallway where everyone was gathered and went to the front desk to ask about Elena.

"Excuse me, where-"

"Vanessa!" She was called out by someone before she could finish her sentence. She turned around to see that it was Luke. Her heart definitely skipped a beat seeing him running to her like his life depended on it. Even the thought of that made something in her stomach churn making her nervous as hell. He stopped right in front of her and threw his arms around her.

"I was so worried" He mumbled. Vanessa wavered in bringing her arms up to hug him back. He pulled back quickly to check over her to see if she was hurt.

"Are you okay?" Vanessa asked before he could say anything.

"I'm fine. Are you?" He asked earnestly. Vanessa couldn't look too long in his eyes. The guilt wouldn't let her. A decision had been made in her head even if she hadn't thoroughly thought about it.
