Soon after, we were on the road, heading downtown. The fair was open until midnight, and we planned to stay the whole time. I was so excited; I loved fairs so much, and I loved hanging out with Alex. But fairs; something about the lights, the food, the games, the rides, the atmosphere- it just made me so happy, overjoyed - jubilant, even. And being with my best friend will make it so much more fun!
I laughed to myself; I sounded like a child. Alex looked at me like I had gone mad.
"What was that, mate?" He asked, genuinely concerned on why I suddenly started laughing.
"Oh, I just thought of something funny is all," I told him. The rest of the drive consisted of Alex and me singing to random pop songs on the radio and playing that game where you punch someone when you see one of those buggy cars. Alex won that one. What Alex thought was downtown actually ended up being right outside of Sheffield. He apologized countless times for making me drive that far, but it was alright. I just cared about the fair itself.
"I'm warning you now, Al," I told him, "I turn into a child around fairs, and I'll probably make you ride every ride at least once!"
"Sounds like a blast," Alex noted. After we payed for our tickets, I came up with a plan. "Okay, Al, game plan:," I started with, trying to get a laugh out of him. It worked. His laugh was so nice; it was heavy but light at the same time, and always really genuine. I loved it.
"So," I continued, "We're saving the ferris wheel for last. I say we start with a couple rides, then get food, yeah?" I proposed. Alex nodded.
"Sounds good," he said. I smiled.
"Well, my friend, would you like to pick the first ride?" I offered in a mock posh voice.
"G Force?" He said excitedly, his eyes lighting up.
"Excited much?" I laughed. Al nodded.
"It's my favorite!"Alex took my hand and we ran to the G Force line. It was only around 6:00 PM, so it wasn't to crowded. It was only us and a group of about 4 kids, and they gave up weird looks. I guess they weren't used to seeing adults acting like 7 year olds at a fair. I giggled to myself.
After we had ridden almost half the rides and played most of the games, Alex and I were walking around, trying to find a concession stand; Alex was holding a giant stuffed giraffe he won. We must've looked like madmen, but it was worth it. When we finally found a food booth, we got cotton candy to share and some soda. I think that was the best night I've had in a while."Miles, there must've been a flaw in our plan," Alex said suddenly. I looked up.
"Huh?"
"There's only one ride we haven't ridden, and it's only 8:30," he mused.
"I have...underestimated how many rides there are," I said, trying to be funny. Al giggled, so it must've worked.
"We can still walk around and enjoy the lights and food for a while, then go on the ferris wheel," He said. I nodded. We finished off the cloud of cotton candy and went on our way.Upon walking the entire fair, I noticed that there was one other ride we didn't see - The Scrambler. Perfect. Alex ended up being on the side that got squished, and I kinda felt bad for him. He seemed to enjoy it, though, and I did too. Who knew being thrown around in a metal cart could be so much fun?
We were both dizzy as hell when we got off though; we were stumbling about and laughing. People probably thought we were drunk, although they didn't sell alcohol since it was a school fair. Whatever, it didn't matter. We were having the times of our lives together.
((A/N: Was this the longest chapter I've written? I think so. Was it my favorite chapter? Totally~ Feedback is much appreciated!!))
