{Five}

"Attention all fair-goers: the fair will be closing in 15 minutes. Please get your last rides and games in!" A voice boomed over an intercom. Alex and I looked at each other. Without a word, we both took off for the ferris wheel. We were wheezing by the time we got to it; running across a whole fair while weaving through kids isn't the easiest.

The operator sat us down on a cart and put the safety bar up. Al and I were beaming, we were both so excited. Someone earlier had told us that the ferris wheel gave a great view of all the lights. The carts jolted back, and we started moving. Alex looked at me, and I looked back. His eyes were lit up, and he looked like he was about to jump out the seat.
  "You look like you're about to take off and fly, mate," Al said, giggling, confirming that I was the same way. We stopped at the top, like some kind of cliche movie. I looked at Alex again.

There were dozens of colors scattered across his face from the lights around us; red, blue, green, purple - he looked beautiful. He really did. Suddenly, our cart rocked back and forth, breaking me from my thoughts. I yelped and tried to grab onto something. Alex laughed. "It was just me, Miles, calm down, yeah?" He said, still giggling at the expression I must've pulled.

We started moving again, occasionally leaning back in the cart to scare each other. I guess we both turned into little kids at these kinds of places. It was sure as hell fun.

By the time we reached the ground, it was 11:57. We had to run if we didn't want to get locked in! I grabbed Alex by the hand and we both ran for dear life. I was faster than Al, so I was kinda dragging him along. "C'mon, mate, ya wanna get locked in?" I told him playfully. We finally reached the gate at 11:59. Wow.

Alex and I walked out to the car puffing and gasping for breath. We ran way too much in one night. I had just realized how tired I was, and yawned. Alex took notice and said, "Ya tired? Want me to drive?" I just nodded. "Thanks."

As soon as Alex started the car, the humming of the engine put me to sleep.
