For the rest of that week, she didn't go to school. There was some truth in the excuse that she had given to the principal, her ribs were still extra sensitive whilst they were healing and her nose had swollen, meaning that she still had two slight black eyes. During the course of the week, she received a few messages from Allison but she decided that it was best to ignore them all. Allison had made it clear that she didn't want to pursue their relationship any further, she she decided that cutting all ties was the best and quickest way to go.

Allison had missed Holly all week. Her messages had been left unanswered which made her worry that something had bad had happened, although she knew deep down that Holly was just ignoring her. Monday soon came around and she prayed silently to herself that Holly would be back in school. She knew she was to blame for all of those unanswered texts, and part of her also knew she was the reason why Holly hadn't showed up to school. It was only early in the morning but she couldn't see her in the halls. Her mood began to dip again and she wondered if she was even here.

5 minutes into 6th period, there was a knock at the door before it opened slowly. It was Holly. Allison tried to contain her smile, but couldn't stop the corners of her mouth curving slightly when she saw her. She looked frail and her eyes were red as though she had been crying. She looked at Allison for no longer than a second and then put her head down.

"Sorry I'm late. Mrs Osborne kept me behind in History." she muttered quietly.

"Take your seat please." Miss Laine replied, trying not to sound too harsh.

Allison tried her hardest to make eye contact with her, but Holly kept her gaze low and ignored her for the whole lesson. She could see her talking too Elliot as well, but she knew that something still wasn't right. She had to talk to her when the class was over.

"Please pile your textbooks up at the front of the class on your way out. If you haven't completed your work then please, finish it at home. I'll be collecting everyone's work in tomorrow after class so it needs to be finished. Holly, can I have a word please?"

Holly lifted her head slightly and Elliot patted her on the shoulder before leaving the class. She  struggled to pick up her bag from the floor as movement was still causing her discomfort. Allison rushed over and bent down next to here.

"Let me help you." Allison said, picking up her bag and setting it down on the table.

She didn't even look at Allison. She just slid the bag across to the other side of the table and then perched herself on the table top. Her face screwed up in pain as the shooting pains shot through her chest.

"So. what do you want?"

Allison pulled up a chair and sat in front of her. She had her hands in her lap and she was picking at her nail varnish.

"How have you been?"

"Fine."

Miss Laine sighed. "Don't lie to me..I know you're not okay." She reached out to take hold of her hand, but Holly only moved away even further.

"How do you think I feel? Did you expect me to say that I was ok? You let me stay at your house. We kissed. YOU kissed me. I told you about my family. I've never told that to anyone else and you knew that. I trusted you and then you go and treat me like shit. How did you expect me to react? You can't expect me to be okay with this. I am not ok with this."

"Listen." Allison closed her eyes and shoved her hands up to her face. "I didn't mean to hurt you. I don't want either of us getting into trouble. You know I could lose my job over this."

She looked at Allison with a sarcastic smile and shook her head. "I know you could lose your job, and I totally get that. But wasn't there a better way to break it to me? I came in her that morning to see how you were and you greeted me with that fucking 'It's Miss Laine to you' bullshit. And you didn't mean to hurt me? Are you fucking kidding? I understand that your job means a lot to you but YOU meant a lot to me and I was stupid enough to even think that we could be together."

She stood up, grabbed her bag and headed for the door.

"Holly! Let me explain, I need to talk to you. Please, can't we just sit down and talk properly?"

"You know, next time you want to tell me something, don't. Don't call me and don't text me. Don't even speak to me in class unless you really have to. I've been on my own since my parents died and I know the only person I can rely on is myself. I'm pretty sure you'll have no problem treating me like I don't mean anything to you."

And that was it. She was gone. Gone out of the class and gone out of Allison's life.
