The brunette drove as fast as she could. No matter how fast she drove, it wouldn't be quick enough. She needed to be with Allison right now.
Luckily, it was the middle of the night so there wasn't much traffic on the road. Her old apartment was around 25 minutes away from the hospital, but the 25 minute journey was made in under 15 minutes.
When she got there, she rushed through the entrance doors and up to the desk.
"Can you tell me where Allison Laine is, please?" She asked, tripping over her words because she was speaking so fast.
"One minute, let me check that for you."
"Can you hurry please?...Sorry." She shifted her weight from one foot to the other, wanting to run as fast as she could and take Allison in her arms.
"May I ask what your relationship is with Miss Laine? I need to know before I can let you see her."
"I'm her girlfriend now please, just tell me where she is."
"She's on the McDowall ward, unit 5. It's on the 4th floor, would you like some assistance?"
"No, thank you!" She shouted, spriting off towards the stairs.
She could have taken the elevator, but couldn't bare the wait. Instead, she skipped up the stairs 2 at a time, keeping hold of the handrail as she climbed. Being a keen ahlete in school had its perks, and she was able to make her way up the floors without getting tired out. When she reached the 4th floor, she entered the ward and and scoured the names on the walls. She was standing outside of Unit 2, and she knew that Unit 5 would probably be at the end of the hall. She stopped a doctor outside of the door and asked which she needed to go.
"End of the hall, on the right."
The hallway felt like it went on forever. She hurried down the hall, checking each patient name on the doors. Finally, she came to Allisons room and took a deep breath before she stepped inside. Allison was sat up in bed, leaning back against the pillows. Her eyes were red and puffy, and her hair was scraped backed back into a ponytail, something that Holly didn't see very often.
She knew that whatever had happened, wasn't good.
The brunette rushed to her bedside and sat down on the bed. As soon as she saw Holly, the blondes eyes began tearing up. Holly grabbed hold of her hands and she held on tight, squeezing them.
"Ally, what happened?"
She looked down so that she didn't have to make eye contact with her girlfriend who was now sat in front of her. She'd gone over it in her head a million times, but now that Holly was here, she didn't know what to say.
"I'm sorry." She whispered.
"W..what for? Baby look at me."
"So, so sorry." She repeated again.
It was like it was the only thing she could say.
"Allison, look at me okay. Tell me what's happened. I'm right here, I'm not going anywhere."
Allison finally pluched up the courage to look her girlfriend in the eyes. The second their eyes made contact, tears formed and fell down her cheeks. Holly knew in her heart what Allison was going to say, but she clung to the tiny bit of hope that it wasn't true.
"N..no. Allison please tell me tha.."
"I'm sorry, Holly." Allison interrupted, not being able to bare the sight of her girlfriend crumbling in front of her.
Holly reached forward and held onto Allison, pulling her into a tight embrace. The blonde burst into tears and Holly held on even tighter, worried that if she let go, Allison would be taken from her too. She cried a little, but tried her best to fight back the tears. She knew she had to be strong for Allison. They had both lost their baby, but Allison had to go through the pain of actually losing the child, and that was a loss that Holly couldn't even imagine.
"The doctor...he said...I lost the babies Holly." Allison pulled away slightly so that they were face to face now.
Babies? What?
"The Babies? What do you mean?"
"When they did the ultrasound, they found two babies. We were having twins, Holly. Twins."
Holly felt a pain rip through her chest. Twins. What more could the two of them wanted?
Holly wiped away the tears from Allisons cheek. "Did they say what happened?"
Allison turned her head away and looked down at the floor. She couldn't possibly tell her the truth, Holly would kill Dani if she knew what really happened.
"What's wrong? Allison what happened?"
"I need you to listen to the whole story, before you kick off, okay? And I need you to remember that flying off the handle wont help the situation. I need you here with me, and I can't have you leaving again. So I need you to promise me you wont get angry."
"Okay, but you're starting to make me worry."
"When you left, I tried to settle and not stress myself out. I took a shower and went downstairs. I heard a knock at the door and I thought it was you, but when I answered, Dani was standing there. She asked me if she could come in and asked why i was crying.."
"Fuck." Holly cried out. "Was this my fault? Please tell me this wasn't my fault. Oh my god I'm so sorry." She stood up and began to panic.
"Just listen to me, ok? She came round asking if you were home, but I knew she was just looking to cause trouble. I got angry at her because she was bad mouthing you, I couldn't stand listening to her speak about you that way. She started acting weird, like she wouldn't leave if I asked her to calmly."
Allison took a deep breath and grabbed hold of Hollys hand.
"We..the two of us...got into a fight. In the heat of the moment, I completely forgot about the baby. That makes me sound like such a bad mother, and I'm so sorry. I never meant for any of this to happen. I pushed her off the front porch but she grabbed hold of me and took me down with her."
Holly felt her anger begin to rise, she was seething with resentment.
"You aren't a bad mother Allison, none of this is your fault. I promise you."
She pulled Allison into her chest and kissed the top of her head. "Now, you're telling me Dani did this to you. Right?"
Allison nodded and began to cry hard again. "Yes, but please don't go. Not tonight. Stay with me, I can't have you going out there looking for her right now."
"This is all going to be okay, I'm not going anywhere. I promose you." Holly whispered, holding onto her girlfriend tightly.
On the outside, it looked as though she was calm and collected. But inside, she was ready to explode. She couldn't even imagine what she was going to do to Dani when she found her. But she knew she'd get her own back, even if it killed her.
