After thirty minutes of digging through all the boxes. We dug through photos and old junk.
"I don't see anything." Derek sighed softly and plopped on the bed.
I opened my wooden jewelry box and looked at all of my old jewelry. I saw an old promise ring I used to wear.
"You know I actually miss this place." I smiled and pulled up the necklace my birth mom gave me.
"Well maybe we can fix it up and move in." He moved closer and kissed the back of my head.
He then moved my hair back and massaged my shoulders. I hummed with enjoyment.
"Yeah that would be nice I turned to face him." I held the necklace in my hand and examined it.
I looked at all the intricate details in the engravings. Derek then let go of me and locked view with the necklace.
His face stopped."Alex where did you get that?"
"Oh this?" I held it up. "My birth mother gave it to me a long time ago. what about it? "
"Um-it is.." Derek said before being interrupted by brett.
I held the necklace tight and didn't let it go.
"Hey Derek alex come quick!" Brett yelled from down stairs.
I got up and Derek followed me down stairs. Boxes were everywhere in the living room.
"All that I found there is actually one more box but it's super heavy and I need you to help me with it." Brett waved for Derek to follow him.
I looked down at the box that had my name on it. I wiped the thick layer of dust off the top. I opened it carefully like my life depended on it. Inside the box there were a few pictures, files, and a couple other things. I picked up the first picture of my birth parents and me. Then my dad had the same tattoo as the necklace my mom gave me. My mother also had the same tattoo. The tatto was one thick swirl on their four arms.
"Maybe my parents were in some weird tribe." I shrugged.
I put down the picture and looked at other various things in the box. There was another photo that caught my eye. The photo had a picture of me and my parents shaking hands with another male and female. They had a little boy and me and him.were wearing the same necklace. A few seconds passed and Derek came up the stairs with a huge box labeled do not open.
"Derek, look at you!" I squealed
"Let me see!" He said practically throwing down the box.
Derek's emotions slowly changed from happy to on edge.
"I want to see!" Brett rushed over.
Derek's eyes widened."Why are our parents shaking hands?"
"Hey I have seen her before." Brett said pointing at my mom.
"Where?"
My eyes grew wide and my mouth gaped.
"A few days ago I saw her in the gas station near the interstate." Brett said.
"Brett, are you sure? My parents are dead!" I said softly.
"I remember faces and I remember her on the phone talking about some large reunion." Brett said.
"Derek what do you think of all this?"
"He might be right I mean think about it. "The reunion" maybe it's like a union and they're reuniting." Derek shrugged.
"That's a little bit of a stretch don't you think?" Brett and Derek turned towards me.
"Derek take a look at this!" I pulled out a red file.
