I walked up the steps and tripped lucky Derek was behind me. He caught my arm and prevented my chin from busting into the concrete step. Me and Derek were now chest to chest.

"Well miss clumsy," he said looking down at my face.

" hehe" I laughed nervously

Derek then got close to my face about to kiss me and my heart started to race. I could hear it in my head growing louder and louder.
Then he cleared his throat and got up. I felt like we were just getting somewhere.

"Here you go" he blushed.

"Thanks" I smiled.

"Now come on let's head inside" He tried so hard not to burst into laughter.

I walked in the door and Derek was after me.

"Dinner will be ready in twenty minutes," my mom said.

Then I grabbed his hand and dragged him upstairs and plopped on the bed. We sat there and stared at the ceiling.

"So Derek what's your ambition? " I asked.

"To settle down and have a family one day. What about you? " Derek turned to look at me.
" maybe I'll go to college and then maybe find someone special and have kids." I smiled.

We now sat face to face.

"I never really thought about college. I didn't think I would personally make it this far," Derek looked down.

"Why not? I mean you're charming and smart" I said.

"It's not that it's just my life is somewhat complicated" Derek then put on the fake smile that he does.

"How so? I mean you're putting your future in jeopardy by not giving yourself the best opportunities" I wondered.

"You see my parents are rich and powerful. On the other hand my brother is a football ass hat plus my dad wants me to do his job so I don't really have a lot of options." He said.

"If you did have options would you? " I stroked his hair back.

"Yes, you know you're the most stubborn person I have ever met" he laughed.

"I get that a lot" his hair was so soft and this moment was so perfect.

"Have you ever been to a school dance? " Derek laid his head down on my chest.

"No, I don't necessarily have time for extra activities" he smirked.

"Why not? " I asked.

"Well my dad has me working his job all the time and not older brother when he's the rightful heir." he said

Then he gets more mysterious. I want to know every crucial detail. He is literally like trying to decipher the DaVinci code.

"Alex dinner! " my mom yelled.

We ran down the stairs like two little children. I sat down beside Derek and my mom across from me. Then I noticed the food sat out for my dad.

"Oh pulled pork for dinner! Yummy!" I smiled.

"That will be good!" Said derek.

He's always working late, sometimes my mom works late too. Suddenly the door banged open.

"Dad," I said running up to hug him.

"Hey sweetheart" he dropped a huge black bag.

"Derek, this is my father," I smiled.

Derek immediately jumped up to shake his hand. As they shook hands they gave each other a look. The look of where one doesn't respect another.

"Alright well I'm starving! Everyone sit down, let's eat!" said my dad.

Dinner was an awkward silence for ten minutes. I don't know if I can take the silence any longer.

"So, dad how was your day?" I asked.

"It was great, like all business days, very bloody! I work to make our food like this pig that we are eating!" He smiled bigger than usual.

I saw the look my dad gave him then Derek dropped his fork and almost looked sick. I look back at him. Derek then began to sweat and his eyes darkened. I saw something that really threw me off. Why are they acting as if they know each other if he said they haven't met before?

"Yeah well a pig slaughtering company isn't going to be clean!" I smiled.

"You got that right! It's dirty! It's bloody! And its super guts and gore!" He said, taking a large bite and looking at Derek and smirking.

Then an awkward silence occurred then Derek stood up.

"Thanks, Mrs. Scott, for dinner I really have to go home now. I forgot my family is coming over tonight from up north and I really must go thanks for everything." he said walking towards the door.

"But, don't you want some pie?" My dad asked, giving him a weird look.

"Um I don't know it's getting late and I have to be home." He said so seriously.

"You really should stay the pie is to Die for!" The looks my father gave him were so utterly weird that anyone would notice the tension.

"Maybe? I'm a little bit longer." He slowly sat down as I scolded my dad.

What the hell Just happened? Then the oven dinged.

"Oh that's the pie!" Said my mom standing up.

"I'll help you!" I said jumping up.

I saw my father and him glaring each other down.

I pulled my mom in the kitchen and whispered."what is dad doing!"

"What do you mean?" She whispered.

"Do you honestly not see the way he's looking at Derek?" I whispered yelled.

"No?" She said in a confused way.

"Alright I'll take the plates out." I said.

I walked out of the kitchen and Derek wasn't himself. The way he looked and how he sat it wasn't him.

"Hey?" I said to Derek as I rubbed his back.

I tried to ease the mood but it was almost like Derek's hair on his back was standing straight up. His body was emitting heat that I could feel from my seat. I then touched his head and neck.

"Derek I think you have a fever?" I could've sworn that Derek's eyes changed color. From a green to a baby blue it simultaneously shifted to green.

"Derek?" I asked, rubbing his shoulder.

He didn't even look at me as he stared down at my dad. I tried to get his attention but he seemed to not be there.

"Hey Derek!" I snapped my fingers.

"Yeah?" His voice seemed to be much deeper.

"Are you okay?" I asked politely.

"Yeah I'm fine!" He muttered.

"Who wants pie?"asked my mom.

Then we all got a slice.

"I made this from the scraps." My mom laughed.

Derek was super pale compared to his olive complexion.

"Derek are you okay?" I was worried now.

"I have to go now!" He violently stood up. I stood up and followed after.

"Wait! Derek, I'll walk you out"
I shut the door quietly and walked up to his truck.

"I'm so sorry about my family and dinner. My dad was being a butt probably because you are the first boy I brought home" I said apologetically.

"No, I love your family I had a wonderful time my stomach was hurting and my family is coming tonight"

I knew he was lying. He always lies in strange circumstances. Are they hiding something? I just knew I had to find out.

"Goodnight! Derek see you tomorrow, " I said.

"Goodnight, Alex and I'll see you tomorrow as well"

Then he left the driveway and I ran inside and slammed the door.
