Evelyn

Things were the same between Rowan and I for the next few days and I was grateful for that. I wasn't ready for a relationship yet because relationships meant keeping expectations for the other half and one thing I've learnt over the years is to never expect - if you don't expect then you don't get hurt.

"Did you complete the assignment, Evie?" Hayden asked, trying to close the flap of his bag. I sighed in humour and closed it for him. He said a short thanks before taking my hand and walking towards the Psychology department.

"I did it the day it was assigned."

"Well someone's a goody-goody." I rolled my eyes at his comment and let go of his hand to check my bag cautiously just to see if I didn't forget my assignment. It was an understatement to say that I was terrified of our lecturer and forgetting your assignment was something you didn't want to do when you had him.

"Hayden, watch out," I yelled as I saw someone running hastily in our direction, obviously unaware that there were people present on the same path as him. Hayden didn't move quick enough and collided with the guy who was running. They both simultaneously fell to the ground thereby making me quickly approach them with a worried expression but neither of them noticed me as they were busy asking each other if they were alright.

"I'm so sorry. I was just in a rush to get to the lecture hall. Honestly I didn't want Professor Eaton to unleash his wrath upon me," Running Guy explained. So I wasn't the only one who thought Professor Eaton was the spawn of the devil.

"You're a Psychology student?" Hayden asked, lending him a hand to get up.

"I am."

"How come I've never noticed you before?"

"I tend to sit right at the back. I'm honestly not surprised that you've never seen me. I'm Mason."

"I'm Hayden and this is my best friend Evelyn." Mason brought his hand forward to shake both mine and Hayden's hand however Hayden and Mason's hands seemed to be enclasped for a little while longer and there were identical smiles on both their lips.

"We better get going then," Mason smartly said. Hayden agreed and the three of us made our way to the Psychology department.

"Honestly how have we never noticed Mason before?" Hayden questioned, looking really bewildered by the fact that he didn't acknowledge Mason's presence until an hour ago.

"Well he kind of did explain, Hayden."

"But still, Evie, it's a bit rude not to notice someone you've had in your class for five months," he huffed in annoyance and ran his fingers in his ko neatly made hair which now looked slightly messier due to his recent act.

"Hayden, if you don't mind me asking, do you like Mason?" I asked timidly, curious about what my reply would be.

"Do you mean platonically or romantically?"

"Romantically."

The only response I got was a smile but that was a sufficient enough reply for me to understand what his answer was. My grin grew wider and I nudged him out of happiness. He nudged me back and we carried on that way until we arrived at the café.

"One caramel latte and one macchiato, please." I placed our orders and returned to the table Hayden had selected. He seemed to have zoned out by the time I got there but all I had to do was flick his forehead to regain back all his consciousness.
