Evelyn

"Angel, let's go out today," Rowan side, perching himself up onto one elbow.

I switched my phone off and turned to face him.

"Why?"

"Because we haven't gone out on a date for a while." The last time we had went out on a date was a few weeks before we broke up, and that definitely was a while ago.

"Where do you plan to take me?"

"Anywhere you'd like to go."

"Anywhere?" I asked, cocking my eyebrow.

"Yes, anywhere."

"Let's go to the town centre. There's this new cafe that has opened and it's also in front of the pond so we can go feed some ducks later."

"How cheesy," he laughed but nodded straight after.

Rowan went to shower as I quickly picked out my usual outfit of jeans and a blouse for today. Just as I was about to pull my hair into a high ponytail Rowan walks out with only a towel on. Of course.

I raise my eyebrow at him and he shrugs it off innocently, folding his arms across his wet chest. There were faint marks of red and bit of bruising on his skin due to the cancer steadily developing inside yet he was still as confident with his body as he was before.

"Are you enjoying the view, love?" Rowan smirked, tilting his head to the right.

"So stereotypical, aren't you? Go get dressed, Row." Rowan smirked at me and mischievous glint appeared in his eyes before he ripped his towel off and threw it at me before running off into the other room. "ROWAN HASTINGS!"

"I love you, Evelyn!" He yelled from the opposite room. I shook my head at his immaturity before resuming my previous task of tying my hair.

I stepped out of my bedroom, fully clothed unlike someone else, and waited for Rowan by the door.

"Are we ready to go?" he said, fastening the cuffs on his sleeve. I nodded and intertwined our hands together before heading out the door.

The moment our hands touched the butterflies and the buzz of being in a relationship returned. This is what felt normal. I felt like we were an ordinary couple where everything was perfect in their lives. It didn't feel like the day before Rowan's chemotherapy but just an ordinary day where we went on a date to enjoy ourselves.

As soon as we set foot in the car my phone vibrated against my thigh.

Bring Rowan round, Evie. (Sent at 12:45)

My dad didn't usually text me - it was actually rare - so for him to randomly text me that made me burst out laughing. Rowan buckled up his seatbelt and turned to me with a small smile on his face.

"What's funny?" he asked, settling into his seat.

"My dad wants to meet you." His head immediately snapped to the left where I was sat.

"Right now?"

"Uh huh," I replied happily, a great big smile planted on my face. Rowan had this weird expression on his face, as if he was scared to meet my dad. "Rowan, you know my dad better than I do. I don't know why you're scared."

"I haven't met your father as your boyfriend before. Also this is the first time I'm going to meet him after we broke up. He might kill me."

"He won't, trust me. He likes you too much."

Rowan drove to my father's house whilst repetitively asking me if he was going to die tonight. Nothing I would say would reassure him that he was going to come back home with all his limbs attached. Arriving in front of the grand doors, I stepped out of the car and waited for Rowan to park.
