Mortal AU
Annabeth

It's been weeks. Since Percy was cut off his job, they hadn't had enough money to do about anything. He always apologized, promising he'd take them out when he got a new job. On their anniversary he couldn't afford to get her anything.

He wouldn't stop apologizing. She told him it was fine, that she didn't need any gift to know that he loved her. He loved her and that was enough.

She watched from the kitchen, as he ranked his fingers through his mess of black hair and stare stressed at the bills in the coffee table. Annabeth would finish their dinner (Mac and cheese) and walk up to him. She would put her arms around is neck, and place her mouth against his ear.

"I love you," she would say, then place a kiss on his temple.

"I love you, too," he would reply, relaxing at her touch. Then they would go and eat.

She was excited. He had a job interview today, and she wished him the best of luck. He smiled and kissed her.

"If you don't get the job," she began, and faltered when his smile slowly disappeared. "I will always love you," she promised. His smile came back. He kissed her once more, then left.

She worked around their home. She cleaned up the apartment, and made dinner for them. She'd been saving up, so Annabeth had the great fortune of making them steak with mashed potatoes, and gravy with blue cake. At seven, he came home.

He flopped onto the couch.

"It didn't work out?" She asked quietly. He shook his head. Annabeth rubbed his shoulder, letting him know that she was there.

She went to the other side of the living room, and turned on the radio. Annabeth listened, hoping to hear a good song. A familiar tune flowed through, and a smile grew on the blonde's face. Annabeth cranked up the song, and walked over to Percy. She sat on his back, making sure that she wasn't squishing him.

Come on, come on, turn the radio on
It's Friday night and I won't be long
Gotta do my hair, I put my make up on
It's Friday night and I won't be long

Til I hit the dance floor
Hit the dance floor
I got all I need
No I ain't got cash
No I ain't got cash
But I got you baby

She pulled at his hair, playing with it. Annabeth grabbed his hand, playing with his fingers.

Baby I don't need dollar bills to have fun tonight
(I love cheap thrills)
Baby I don't need dollar bills to have fun tonight
(I love cheap thrills)
But I don't need no money
As long as I can feel the beat
I don't need no money
As long as I keep dancing

Come on, come on, turn the radio on
It's Saturday and I won't be long
Gotta paint my nails, put my high heels on
It's Saturday and I won't be long

He slowly responded, his back relaxing. She began to sing to him, knowing the words to Cheap Thrills. She loved him so much, it pained her to see him this way. Annabeth wanted him to feel better.

Til I hit the dance floor
Hit the dance floor
I got all I need
No I ain't got cash
No I ain't got cash
But I got you baby

Baby I don't need dollar bills to have fun tonight
(I love cheap thrills)
Baby I don't need dollar bills to have fun tonight
(I love cheap thrills)
But I don't need no money
As long as I can feel the beat
I don't need no money
As long as I keep dancing

(I love cheap thrills)
(I love cheap thrills)
I don't need no money
As long as I can feel the beat
I don't need no money
As long as I keep dancing
Oh, oh

Annabeth leaned down, and peppered kisses on his neck. He groaned in response. She kept singing, stopping to kiss him.

Baby I don't need dollar bills to have fun tonight
(I love cheap thrills)
Baby I don't need dollar bills to have fun tonight
(I love cheap thrills)
But I don't need no money
As long as I can feel the beat
I don't need no money
As long as I keep dancing

La, la, la, la, la, la
(I love cheap thrills)
La, la, la, la, la, la
(I love cheap thrills)
La, la, la, la, la, la
(I love cheap thrills)
La, la, la, la, la
(I love cheap thrills)

He flipped over, and she shriek as she bounced up. He grabbed her hands, and pulled her down. She complied and their lips met. He kissed her passionately, letting his feeling pour into this one kiss.

Thank you, it seemed to say.

When they pulled away, he said, "I love you. So much."

To which she replied, "I love you. So very much."

Sure, they had no money. They couldn't afford much, except basic necessities. But Annabeth didn't care. As long as she had him, she would be fine. They could be living out on the streets, but Annabeth would still love him.

Money or not, she loved him. He loved her.

And that, dear reader, was more than enough.
