He called her up, telling her he need to talk. She changed into shorts and a sweater and headed over. They were sixteen, he probably need help with homework.

She reached his apartment building and went up, and knocked on his door. He opened it, his appearance like he'd just woken. She wished her heart would stop racing, and she wished that she wouldn't blush.

"What's up?" She asked.

"Rachel."

She sighed, and let herself in. Annabeth bit her lip, trying not to cry. Of course it was Rachel, his girlfriend. They went up to his bedroom, and Annabeth breathed in the familiar smell of the sea that seemed to follow him everywhere. The duo sat on his bed, the bed where he and Rachel most likely made out. She flinched and spoke.

"Where's your mom? I thought she would be home?"

He shook his head. "Nah, she had to help with an emergency surgery." Annabeth nodded.

"So what happened with Rachel?"

"I dunno, I just feel like she's acting different."

Annabeth sighed again and gave him her advice. She told him to talk to her, and ask her what was wrong. Maybe something was happening like family matters, and that was bringing Rachel down. Percy nodded and thanked her. He invited her to stay over, but Annabeth declined. She rushed to make up and excuse and left the house in a hurry. Her vision was slightly blurry as she made her way to her house, and she furiously wiped her eyes.

She wished she didn't give a shit.

The next day, Erika Johnson handed her a card during AP Math and smiled. They were good friends, and Erika never left Annabeth out of anything. Annabeth opened the card and read what it said.

Her heart dropped. After dropping her things off at her locker, Annabeth headed to Percy's locker, only to find him kissing Rachel. She guessed that they had made up. Awkwardly, she cleared her throat and they pulled apart.

"Hey, can I talk to you Seaweed Brain?"

"Sure." He pulled away from Rachel, who frowned and walked over to her. He slung his arm around her shoulders and Annabeth felt her face heat up.

"What's happening, Wise Girl?"

"I just wanted to know if you were invited to Erika's party? Sorry I...uh...dragged you away."

He blushed, a brilliant red spreading across his cheeks. "It's fine. And yeah I was. You going?"

"Uh, yeah. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one. You wanna head to lunch or...?"

"Yeah, yeah. Lemme just tell Rachel." His arm left her shoulder and she watched as she walked back to Rachel. She saw them talking and Rachel grabbed his shirt, as if trying to keep him. Percy frowned, the corners of his mouth falling and spoke again. Rachel's eyes drifted to Annabeth and back to Percy. She seemed to be protesting, Percy the same.

Annabeth sighed, her heart sinking, and she just turned and left. She made her way to the lunch room and sat down at the table. Thalia noticed her expression and quietly called her over.
