'Nnnh... Where... am I?' As I wake up I just lay there for a few minutes, breathing in and out, eyes blankly directed at the ceiling. It's dark outside, and the little light that manages to seep into the room is cold and pale.
It must be past midnight by now.
I recognize the smell around here. It smells of essence and salt. This is my room. The room Ritsu offered me when my old house... well, burned down. It's a single-floor room with a kitchen, a bed and a table. That's all there is to it. It isn't much, but it's better than sleeping at the Inn.
I turn my head towards the window. One of the curtains wasn't closed properly. The light that Saturn reflects from the sun, like a giant moon, is shining through the room in one lash. It's cold. I notice my body shivering slightly. Maybe Ritsu left the window open.
Tick.
Tick.
Tick...
There it is again. What is that noise? It woke me up!
I turn around again and wrap the blanket around me, still shivering slightly. It really is cold for a night in spring. I sigh and try to get comfortable before sighing contently again. Just before the warmth of sleep gets hold of my mind it's there again.
Tick.
Tick.
Tick...
'Temee!'* I sigh out agitated as I swing my legs over the edge of the bed. 'It's the middle of the night!'
I tiptoe to the table, shivering as my feet hit the cold wooden floor in my tiny room. My staff stands against the old thing, my bag and the rest of my equipment is laid on top of it. Slowly, without making any noise I grab hold of my staff and tiptoe forward towards the window.
Silently I wait.
Tick.
Tick.
Tick...
It's stones. Someone is trowing stones against the window.
'n-sama!'
I peek through the small opening in the curtains. It's too bright outside to see directly, and I'm forced to wait for my eyes to adjust.
'in-sama!'
I blink a few times in the light. First only a tall figure, standing straight and dark in front of the Fox-Family's temple, and in front of my room. Then, slowly, the figure gets characteristics.
A tall person, clothed in a long black coat. A grand silver belt keeping the coat closed, with a long and broad sword stuck to it.
Long strands of silvery blonde hair, carefully braided down the person's back, reaching to his knees. A long, thin neck and sharp blue eyes, accompanied by a small smile when he recognizes me.
