I sigh, turning around to face them.
'So the question is, do we want to take the risk?'
That single question seems of so much importance. It stopped everyone in their tracks. No word was spoken as they all, and that includes me, weighed the risks of running down a path that we couldn't go back through. Or rather mustn't go back through. There is no doubt we'd make it back, but we'd be wounded.
'So for short our chance of safety is completely 50/50?' Rinka rather confirmed her statement than asked.
'Heh, then why not?' She grinned. 'It certainly hasn't been found by any other guilds, right? Otherwise Len or Ritsu would've known!' She stated, ending with a loud laugh. She had a point. I've spend tons of hours at the bar, listening to guilds brag about their new discoveries in drunken states, scribbling notes of discoveries and battle-tactics. (Yes, many Swordmasters actually can discus those kind of things over a large beer, or six of them) This wasn't one of notes I got.
No one ever mentioned a hidden pathway on the second floor, or the first one, on that matter. Not even the Count himself knew about its existence! This might just prove out to be worth the trip, but if we can't get back the normal way, would there be a way to return to the City at all without wounding ourselves? - that is the risk.
On the other hand we can't stay here, and to get back we need to pass the Doestag again, something I'm not willing to try twice within the same day. There may very well be a clearing on the other side, one where no one has set foot before. We may find treasure, or at least a good place to rest. - as such is what we hope to find.
'Well, there's only one way to find out, isn't there?' I grin up at Rinka, who laughs.
'Well, our very special Guildmaster,' she paused to snicker, to which I could only smile, 'says we might as well try. So, what do you kids think?'
'Let's try it.'
'Hm.'
Bakaito raises his sword and cuts through the bush in one strike, the flower petals floating down to the ground. I flinch, he's quite fast when he wants to be. He stares down the path and then mentions for us to follow as he pushes through the narrow opening in the wall.
This path is indeed longer than the last one, and I can't see anything as I tag behind Usagi, as the last in line. The only thing I can notice is the change in smell. I sniff again to confirm it. The last few paths had the metalic stench of blood sewn into the leafs and flowers, but that has changed. Something smells sweet, like some kind of flower.
Pushing through the last part of the path I stumble over a root sticking out from the ground. 'Ugh.' With a thud I hit the mossy ground. The scent is stronger here than ever, I notice it even as I'm getting picked up from behind by a set of lithe arms.
'Thanks Usa, but are those-' Before I can even finish my sentence Rinka shouts. 'FLOWERS!'
She's right. We had arrived at a clearing, with the ground infested with flowers of many colors and scents. I had to blink a few times just to get a full view instead of a swirl of colors. You could almost say it looked, and smelled, (I sneezed) intoxicating. Purples, yellows, whites, blues and pinks of every palet. Beautiful, secluded, and almost safe.
