Garret sighed seeing Lani rush down the hall, her phone pressed to her ear probably playing phone tag with her brother's school.
He leaned against the locker next to her locker. She sent him a tight smile the phone still pressed to her ear as she put in her lock combination.
"Yes, hi I'd like to talk about weird transactions in my card." He sighed again listening to her talk to the bank.
Finally she hung up, she looked at Garrett as he played with his pencil as they sat in the library.
"Hey, sorry about that." She lied her head down on the table.
"Hey baby, what's wrong." Garrett asked rubbing her shoulder.
Lani closed her eyes trying the lush the image of Garrett and the short brunette out her mind.
"Nothing" she lied.
Garrett sighed not wanting to push her, he hated that she was hiding something, ever since him and his mother got into that argument thing have been going down hill.
"There's a fight night." Garrett whispered rubbing small circles on her back
"I'm not going." She rushed out catching garrett by surprise.
He looked at her shocked and hurt. He wondered what he had done to upset her. He slowly nodded, slightly upset that she didn't want to go.
"we should start our project before our teacher kills us." Lani sighed taking her stuff out her bag.
--------
Garrett walked into Carmen and James apartment sighing as he kicked off his sneakers. He smiled at his sister as he walked into the kitchen, opening the fridge he pulled out the soda.
"remember what the doctor said about all that chocolate." Garrett laughed at her.
"I know, my sugar was low so i decided to eat a couple spoons." Carmen replied hopping off the counter. placing the chocolate spread on the shelve. " how's Dahlia, is she still living with you guys?"
Garrett shook his head no. Once Dahlia had turned 18 her and Zander got married and started taking her classes online. She did visit every now and again. They were like her family. Carmen smiled pulling Garrett into a hug, getting on her tiptoes to ruffle his hair. He smiled swatting her hand away, then sipping his soda.
"Soda's bad for you." Carmen laughed taking it from him. "go drink some water"
"Okay mom." Garrett teased.
------
Garrett still looked for Lani in the crowd, his mood fell when he didn't see her there. He couldn't tell if her was angry or hurt that she truly meant she didn't want to go. He felt his eyes stinging, was he crying.
"awe, look that baby's crying." his opponent laughed, hugging his own stomach as he continued to laugh.
Garrett punched the guy, the laugh stopped leaving the entire area silent. Everyone was quiet waiting for what was to happen next. his opponent rubbed his jaw, spitting out blood and a tooth.
"You son of a bitch."
Garrett stalked toward him, His shoulder's tense, his breathing heavy. a smirk on his face as he stopped infront of him.
"What are you gonna do? Hurt the devil?" Garrett asked looking at his opponent.
he saw the guy gulp, the crowd on edge wanting to know what's gonna happen next. Garrett stood there waiting for him to do something. before just walking away, He wasn't feeling the fight. The guy was too afraid to do anything. He honestly didn't care for the money. He shoved his hands in his jacket pockets walking through the crisp night stopping at the bridge, he leaned on the railing looking. He watched his breath slightly fan out in front of him. He watched a mother push a stroller and carry a crying child, he instantly thought of his mother. He started his walk home, as he drew near their apartment he saw him mom walk out the house and kiss some man before following him to his car.
He sighed watching the car drive off. He didn't know what to do with himself.
