Garrett hobbled down the stairs into his room. He dropped his bag and dropped into his bed, letting the darkness of the room cloak him with sleep. He heard a little giggled before the lights flipped on and everyone screamed happy birthday.
he laughed before rolling onto his front in his bed and snuggling into his pillow.
"Oh, come on chava. es sólo nueve y media."
"soy mamá cansada, mañana lo prometo" he took a peak at his mom shaking her head as Carmen laughed. throwing her present at him.
"No more spanish, there are non-spanish speakers here."
Garrett sighed climbing out of bed and hugging everyone thanking everyone. Before they all went into the kitchen to cut cake.
---------
Garrett sat on the couch laughing with Sam, Zander, James and the twins when his mother and Dahlia came in.
"We all have something for you. sorry we didn't get you it on your actual birthday."
They all went upstairs, Garrett walked out to see Lani and Carmen trying to take it down from the bed of Samuel's truck.
"Oh fuck, you got me a new bike." Garrett couldn't help but smiled. He turned to look at his mom, she wasn't smiling.
"well, we didn't get it. Desmond did." she couldn't meet Garrett's eyes.
--------
garrett fumed on the bridge. he couldn't help pacing.
"You wanted to meet me." he heard his father.
"yeah I did. why the hell are you getting me things? why are you being so nice?" he spat out confusion clear.
"I just want to win back Felicia."
garrett stopped and stared at his father. He didn't know what to say. He could hear the pain in his father's voice, on his face. He didn't know what to tell him. he choked on everything he was about to say. All his father wanted was to be loved in his mother's eyes.
