"Skye Abelló" he mumbled, tapping his knuckles against the small chocolate oak tree, printed onto the ink-black plaque which stood centre on the principles desk.

"Is that Italian?"

"Y-yes, my fathers Italian...mothers American"

"Beinvenue" he replied.

I let out a small giggle, which made me feel less nervous, "That's French, not Italian sir"

"I'll just stick to saying welcome in English" he scoffed.

I gazed around his office, resting my eyes on the awards and signed t-shirts framed to the wall. My eyes finally landed on the lettering which stood in front of me. 'Principle Bradshaw'

"I can tell your nervous Skye, but don't be. I can see you fitting in quite well"

He gave me a warm smile, reassuring me I wouldn't be like Wednesday Addams who just turned up to summer camp.

"If you have any problems today, you can come straight to me. Don't bother with the whole 'guidance counsellor' thing" everyone knows that stuff never helps..." He trailed off.

I laughed in reply. This principle was way cooler than my old one, or any principle I've ever heard about.

"I probably should let her go, every time a kid leaves that room they're always in tears."

"How about a camera instalment?" I answered back trying hard to hold my laugh as Principle Bradshaw was so lost in thought.

"GENIUS!" He clapped his hands together, standing up. "Absolutely genius! You, I like" he finished with a pointed finger at me and a grin the size of Texas on his face.

I sure knew how to make a first impression.

I grabbed my timetable from his desk and began to grab my bag. As I stood up, I heard him start to talk again.

"So if I disguise the camera as a Pythagorus Theorem book then no one will even notice!"

I laughed to myself as I listened to his sudden scheme of camera spying. "Thank you sir" I said as I walked towards the door. Before reaching for the door knob I hesitated. "Oh and sir" he smiled up at me, signalling to continue.

"I heard all the kids are talking about camera disguised air fresheners"

And with that I walked out of his office.

"So this is Spring Oaks High" I sighed, as I gazed into the mirror of the girls bathroom.

I decided that since everyone was still in home room, I would kill time and be introduced at first period.

That would give me more time to calm down and try and think this whole day through.

"Hi, I'm Skye Abelló and I used to be-No, that's stupid" I sigh once more.

I searched through my bag, looking for my lipgloss.

What? Can't a girl try on her first day of school?

I stared at the long haired brunette that reflected in front of me. Leaning in closer to the mirror, I applied the lipgloss and took one more look into my hazel green eyes before turning around and heading to my locker...which I had to locate first.

I had walked down the hallway, for what seemed like ten minutes, but really took me a few seconds. This school was way bigger than my old one, it was clean, and seemed like it had good education.

Did I really just think that?

I hated education honestly, but I just wanted to finish my last year in high school without any drama. I had already planned all over the summer how to keep a low profile, but I knew I would break it somehow.

Not only am I just starting a new school full of people I was soon to meet...and probably hate moments after, but I was joining the year in October.

Joining in October meant that everyone would stare and everyone would talk. Joining at the beginning of the semester would of been a easy get away, because everyone would be too busy taking about their summer and who they slept with this time.

Finally reaching my locker, I did my pin code, and scanned my timetable, seeing what lessons I would have first.

Math, Biology, English, Italian, Music and last period, Math. Again!

Great. Double math. What school does that?

I placed the things that I didn't need today into my locker, and just on cue, the bell rang.

Here goes nothing.

And with that, classrooms along each side of the hallway sprung open, and the voices of teenagers echoed in my ears. Students of all sizes escaped from the doors and emerged into the hallways, filling every gap there could possibly be.

I felt like I was in a scene from The Lion King.
