To my complete displeasure, I was paired up with Brown on patrol tonight. I would have rather gone to hell than patrol with the nuisance, but father wouldn't hear it. Right now, we were stationed atop of a building overlooking the city. No criminal activity was happening at the moment, so Brown just sat down at the building ledge, while I practiced my sword fighting techniques with my katana.
Thankfully, Brown did not talk to me, so I was able to practice and focus in peace. Although, Brown wasn't usually this subdued. In fact she was usually rather active and bothersome, but I was not going to complain about the quietness. And then of course, just when I have immersed myself into this quiet and peaceful concentration, Brown's annoying voice completely disrupts everything.
"So, Damian, you're dating Mar'i now?" Brown says. There goes my peaceful, quiet practice.
"My personal life, is of none of your concern Brown," I snap at her. I swing my katana to the right. Slice!
"Damian, Mar'i's wellbeing is entirely my concern." Slice! I swipe my katana again.
"If you are so worried about Mar'i's wellbeing, then you should be talking to her, not me. Although she seems rather healthy and uninjured currently, so I do not see what you are so worried about." Swing!
"No Damian, you know perfectly well what I mean," she says rather seriously. Now, I am rather aggravated, as I am now unable to concentrate on my katana again.
"I do not actually, now shut your mouth before I run this sword through you," I say rather annoyedly.
"No Damian! You should shut up now, because Mar'i's wellbeing depends a lot on you!" I am taken aback. I have never seen or heard Brown be so serious before. There is even a tiny spark of anger in her eyes. I lower my katana.
"Listen Damian, Mar'i is like a younger sister to me. And I swear, if you do anything to hurt her, to break her heart, I will not just stand still and let you do it."
Brown's sudden display of protective anger catches me. She really does care for Mar'i. But she has to know that I would never try to hurt Mar'i.
Especially break her heart.
"Brown, listen here. I love Mar'i. I would never try to hurt her. And I would most definitely, never try to break her heart. I would die before doing that. If I did such a thing, I would never forgive myself."
Brown's angry intensity softens. In fact, she looks rather surprised now.
"You really care about her, don't you?" she asks me softly.
"I do," replying back. "Wholeheartedly."
"Alright Damian, I believe you. I'm not trying to accuse you of hurting Mar'i, but if you do, I will never stop hunting you down until you go to hell."
"Of course," I say. I do not even try to insult her. Brown makes a small smile.
"Good, glad we cleared this up."
