Hell.
That's the perfect word to describe the one year apart. Edward had been constantly beaten, locked in a room for God only know how long everyday. Everyday, he'd be locked in there, until he'd stopped crying out for Roy. This, in turn, annoyed Envy to no end. Little did Ed know, because he would wish for Roy, his "punishments" were harsher.
But the poor boy couldn't tell anymore, not when it all became numb. The world around him, seemed blank. Empty. He couldn't feel anymore. Not when Envy was around.
Roy was in no better state. He missed the blonde neko. He had come to realize it over the course of the year they were split apart.
He, Roy Mustang, in such a short amount of time, fell in love, with Edward Elric. Knowing he felt this way, only made him more nervous for the boy. What condition would he come back in? Would he still be the adorable boy he knew? Or would he be a pile of broken bones? He wasn't sure anymore.
Everyone in the office had noticed the man's change. Especially Riza Hawkeye. She was eventually informed of the situation, and had threatened to find Edward herself, and shoot the man who hurt him.
Both Edward and Roy came to the same conclusion.
