The flight to the hospital in London went very quickly, which I'm grateful for. I want to get my treatment started as soon as possible. The pain hasn't subsided, and I'm really hoping that it eventually will.
We just landed on the helicopter pad, and I'm not being transported to what will be my home for god only knows how long. I'm lying on the gurney, as wheels squeak as I float down a dull, long hallway.
We reach a room and the nurse opens the door. The room isn't a bad size, better than what I had expected. But then I notice something. There's two beds in here. it doesn't really bother me,im just suprised.
"Here you go. If you need anything you can press this button and someone will be in immediately. Your doctor should be in in a few minutes." The nurse says with a blank expression plastered on her face. Wow she's so friendly.
"Thanks." I mumble as she leaves the room in a swift movement. I just look around the room for a few minutes. In between the two beds, there is a tv mounted on the wall. Just below the tv, are two chairs and a small table. The empty bed on my left, has a window next to it. There's not much of a view though. The walls are painted blue, it's so pale it looks white, but there's still a hint of colour in there.
A few minutes later, the doctor walks in. She has red hair that hangs a few inches past her shoulders. She I probably 50 years old, and she wears the same kind smile my mom did.
"Hi honey, my name is Dr. Smith. I will be your doctor through out the treatment. First thing first, I wanted to check with you too see if our records for you are correct. For your guardian we have, Carol Bennett? Is that correct?" She asks.
"Yes it is." I reply
"And what is her relation to you?"
"My aunt." I reply. I can tell she is somewhat taken aback. But she doesn't mention it and I'm grateful. I've been able, to stay somewhat strong the whole time, and bringing up my parents would break me.
*Flashback*
I had been sitting at this same desk in school all year. I absolutely hate it. I wasn't sitting with any of my friends. But the school year was almost over, and then I would be going to grade four. I looked at the clock,
1:30
I have an hour of school left, then it's the weekend. Mum and dad said that we would go to the the carnival after school today, so I was even more excited for school to be over. I hear an announcement come over the P.A. asking if I could go to the office to be picked up. I was so excited, mum and dad must be picking me up early to go to the carnival.
I run out of the class, and out to the hallway to my locker. I grab my backpack and run down the hallway to the office. I open the door and see my auntie sitting in the chair in the waiting place. I got even more excited. I haven't seen my auntie in a few months. This was the best surprise ever. I run over to hug her, then she lifts her head. She has tears running down her face.
"Auntie what's wrong?" I ask while I tap her arm.
"Come on sweetie, we have to go." She says as she grabs my bag and takes my hand in hers.
We drive to the hospital. I had only ever been here a few times, one time I broke my arm, and the other when my other auntie had her baby. Once we parked at to the hospital, auntie told me to come up and sit with her in the front. I did as I was told and she looked at me with sad eyes and told me what had happened.
"Alyssa, sweetie, mum and dad were in a car accident. They are hurt. Do you want to go see them?" She quietly asked, not looking at me. I nodded as we walked hand in hand into the hospital where we made our way to the front desk.
"Hi, we are here to see Mr and Mrs Bennett." My auntie asks the lady at the desk.
"I'm sorry. I'm going to have the doctor speak to you." The nurse says as she looks at my auntie. Auntie went over to where the doctor was standing, and a minute later, she came back sobbing.
"Auntie what happened? Where are mummy and daddy?" I asked anxiously. We went over and sat down in the almost empty waiting room.
"Honey, mommy and daddy are gone to heaven."
*Flashback over*
"Alyssa? Are you alright?" I hear my doctor saying.
"Yes sorry. Just thinking." I responded.
"Alright well, it's getting late now, so I just wanted to let you know that tomorrow, you will have a roommate. Don't worry, it will be a girl and we will try our best to have her around your age. So now, I suggest you have a rest. I'll be back to see you in the morning." She said as she exited the room. And I drifted off to sleep.
