"Counseling"
I was sitting in second hour talking to Amber. My day had been good so far. Amber picked me up for school and we met up with Sid in the cafeteria. We made it all the way through first hour with no problems and now we were sitting in World History not paying attention to anything Mr. Grant was saying. Then the intercom came on.
“Kayla O’Neil and Aidan Riley please report to Mrs. Griff’s office,” said our secretary in a screechy voice.
I picked up my books and put them back in my bag. When I was done I slung my bag over my shoulder and headed for the door.
“Don’t forget your homework Miss O’Neil,” Mr. Grant said handing me a paper. I took it without saying anything and walked out of the classroom. I knew that this was my first session of marriage counseling and for some reason I was kind of nervous. What would she make us do?
I turned the corner by the front office and waved to Mrs. Stevens, our secretary, before continuing down the hall to Mrs. Griff’s office. When I got there she was standing outside the door waiting for me. I liked Mrs. Griff. She was nice and kind of reminded me of my grandmother. She was really short. Like only 5 foot and she was really plump. Most of her brown hair had turned grey and she kept it pulled back into a bun. She never wore make-up and for some reason she was always smiling at everyone but not in a creepy sense. Her smiles made you feel welcome and at home.
“Hello, Mrs. Griff,” I said smiling back at her.
“Hello, darling. Just go on in and sit on the couch. Aidan’s not here yet so I’ll wait here for him,” she said gesturing towards the couch.
Of course he wasn’t here, I thought as I made my way to the couch and sat down. He had to be late to everything even if he bothered to show up. It was so typical.
After a few minutes I heard footsteps coming down the hall and the sound of a deep voice greeting Mrs. Griff. She said hello back to him in her usual cheery voice, like he wasn’t even five minutes late. What took him so long to walk from his class to here? It wasn’t like this was a big campus or anything. I looked up at the sound of the door closing. I saw Aidan walking towards me and watched him as he dropped down on the couch beside me.
He looked good today, was all I could think. He had on a black shirt and jeans like usual but he didn’t have on his jacket and you could see his shoulders and body clearly. His hair looked messy like he had been running his hands through it repeatedly. He looked over and caught me looking so I turned my head away to look at the front of the room but I still saw him smirk out of the corner of my eye. I really had to snap out of it!
“So how are things going,” Mrs. Griff said smiling.
“Fine,” we both said at the same time.
“That’s wonderful. I’m sure you haven’t started on your paperwork yet but you should get to it soon,” she said looking at a file.
“Actually Mrs. Griff we’re already finished,” I said getting the folder out of my bag.
“Really?”
“Yes ma’am. Aidan came over to my house yesterday and we wound up finishing it all,” I said handing her the papers.
“That’s wonderful! So I guess this partnership is working out?”
