                                                "Busy Busy"

The two weeks leading up to the carnival passed by in a blur. I went to school with Aidan every morning, even though Amber got her car back. I did all my school work, went to the newspaper meetings, worked on the booth, and then went to work with Aidan every evening. I’m basically running on fumes and my whole body hurt.

It was the end of the day and I was in the newspaper room trying to figure out a theme for prom. Since the booth was almost done and the carnival was this weekend, I decided to move on to my next task. I was currently on the computer looking for prom themes but I couldn’t find one that really stood out to me.

I sighed and stretched myself out before standing and shutting down the computer. It was already 4:30 and I needed to be heading to the diner. I grabbed my things and turned around just to bump into Josh.

“God! You scared me,” I exclaimed as I put my hand over my speeding heart.

“I’m sorry,” he said but he smiled when he said it.

            “What are you doing here?”

“Aidan had to leave early. He asked me if I would take you to the Diner.”

            “Oh,” I said slightly disappointed.

“Come on,” he said as he put his hand at the small of my back and steered me towards the door. “Don’t seem so disappointed.”

            “I’m not disappointed,” I lied.

“You don’t have to lie. I understand,” he said as we reached the parking lot.

“Where is your car,” I asked in order to change the subject.

He pointed to a big black truck almost identical to Aidan’s. I sighed before walking over to it. I had to practically jump to get into Aidan’s but when I made it to Josh’s I realized he had a step to get on to. It was much easier to climb into.

“Why did he have to leave early,” I asked curiously after we were settled and he had started driving.

“He needed to get to the diner. One of our other waiters had to leave early and his mother needed him.”

            “Oh,” was all I said.

“Did you find the Prom theme,” he asked after a few minutes.

“No. I can’t seem to find anything that….jumps out at me.”

            “What about a masquerade?”

“No. They did that year before last. I want something that the school hasn’t done before.”

“I guess I can understand that. Is the booth done?”

“Yes. We finished it day before yesterday. All we have to do is wait until tomorrow morning to get it to the school and set up.”

“It officially opens at 9:00 so everyone should be there by 8:00.”

“That’s early,” he said with a frown as we pulled into the parking lot of the diner.
