"Do you have any sisters?" Emma asked.

"I have one younger sister. My mom managed to run away from my dad with her when she two weeks old. I haven't seen her since."

"Would you like it if your sister was treated the same way you treat all the other girls in the pack? If she was seen as a baby maker and that was it?"

"If I only saw you as a baby maker I wouldn't be training you to fight. Now get up," Kane stated.

"I thought girls were only good for making babies, cleaning and cooking?"

"They are, but their presence is intimidating. Only those who are pregnant or have a child less than six months stay back."

"Is that why you keep the females in your family pregnant all the time?"

"You bet," he said, holding the front door open. "After your first child is born, you'll begging to be pregnant again just like every other female here."

"That because it's the only time your careful with them," Emma stated.

"No, it's because your wolf's instinct to conceive every time you're in heat which starts two months after you have a child. It's part of our kind's survival. There are more females born than males. Females won't turn unless bitten by their mate and most females don't find or have a werewolf mate. Therefore, the more children a female have the more males."

"Can you have more than one mate?"

"No," Kane answered. "Wait here, and keep thinking of questions." He ran home and scurried up the stairs to his ten month old daughter's room. He barged in the room as Lori was in the middle of breast feeding. He glanced behind him to make sure nobody saw before quickly shutting the door behind him.

Lori pulled the blanket up, covering her breast and their daughter. Kane pulled the blanket back down. He brushed his hand over his daughter's short hair with a smile. His daughter looked up at him with glowing golden eyes. He kissed his daughter's forehead then covered her back up.

He grabbed a chair and pulled up in front of Lori. "I can wait," he said. He took a seat. "Emma's asking a lot questions. I think you should hear them." Lori looked up scared. She never talked to Emma. She never did anything bad in front her. She hasn't done anything bad in years.

"Her last question was can we have another mate." Lori's heart started to pound.

He's leaving me. He found another mate. Emma was his other mate, not Noah's. She must have changed because she had werewolf blood

"You wear your emotions so well on your sleeve. I have no idea what you're thinking, but the answer was no," Kane said. "This is why you should ask me about our kind."

"What if you lost your mate?"

Kane smiled, happily. Lori never asked any questions about their kind. "You don't get another. That's one reason why we're so protective of our mates." Lori readjusted her daughter. She was doing anything to avoid looking at Kane. She didn't want him to see her hurt.

Kane watched her nervous reaction. He knew this reaction all too well. She was about to cry. "The other reason is because we can't help but love them." Lori's head snapped up. Her eyes were glossy with tears. "Did you honestly think I didn't love you?"

"You never said it unless we were making a baby. Sometimes you'd say it afterwards. I thought it was a figure of speech."

Kane lightly laughed and leaned forward in his chair. "I love you and I love making babies with you. There's not much I wouldn't do for you. You just got to ask." He tapped her knee. "Come outside when Kia's done."

"Kia's done. She's been sleeping," Lori said, quietly.

"I would've stayed in here and talked to you. All you had to do was ask." Kane took Kia away from Lori and placed her in her crib while Lori fixed her shirt.

On their way downstairs, Kane thought of another idea.

"I want a pack meeting at the town square with all the females present in thirty minutes," he shouted. His house was empty in less than thirty seconds.

"Females," Kane started loud with authority. "There is no such thing as a second mate. You are not made or thought of has baby makers. Nine out of ten your mate loves you. Remember that when those of you without a child under six months or are not pregnant. If you submit in war, you're dead and your mate doesn't get another. Any questions?"

Everybody stayed quiet as he expected. "I'm up for any questions," he said. He looked at Emma and she bowed her head. "Ok, what if I turn off my authority voice?" he asked loud with no authority. There was complete silence. Somebody had to have a question.

Kane huffed in frustration. "If you come up with any about our kind, ask me or your mate. I promise you won't get hurt. If you do, come tell me." He knew nobody would tell him if they got hurt. They'd be afraid of getting hurt again. "Meeting dismissed."

He walked down by his brothers. "That's got to be the most unproductive meeting you've ever held," Marcus said. Kane simply nodded.

"We go to war tomorrow morning! You have until that time to ask! I want nobody injured!" Kane shouted. "Maybe that'll make them speak up," he said to Marcus.

"Doubtful, are we actually going to war in the morning?"

"Yes, I'm sick of waiting. Go spend the rest of the night with Veronica."

Kane looked around the crowd... "Lori, where are you?" he shouted. He jerked forward as a warm hand touched his back. "You need to not do that," he said. He turned to face Lori. "Grow a little."

A little tan wolf stuck her popped her head out from behind Lori. Seeing Kane, the wolf quickly popped her head back behind Lori. Kane gently pushed Lori to the side revealing the pup. He reached down and picked her up so she was eye level to him. "Has Tucker made you shift back yet?" he asked. The pup bowed her head, letting her ears droop.

"She's been worried about the baby," Tucker said. He reached out and took Willow away from him.

"You're going to spend the night with a wolf?" Kane asked.

"Maybe I plan on shifting and going for a run with her," Tucker said. Kane glared at him. "I'll make her shift when we get home."

Kane turned back to Lori. "So what are we going to do tonight?"

Lori shrugged her shoulders. "How about we take the kids for ice cream?" Lori's eyes lit up. "Maybe get you some chocolate chip?"

"And relish," Lori said quietly.

Kane curled his lip up in disgust. "Yeah, we can stop by the house and get some relish?" he said.
