The Otherside Chapter 3

Emma trembled under the stare of Kane. The field was full of werewolves. She had nowhere run. She remembered her teachings from Noah. She was small; the small always waits out the big. Kane caught on quick to how she was taught. He lunged at her and she ducked at the last moment and Kane sailed over her. He kicked her in the muzzle as she twisted and went for his back legs. She flew through the air, landing at the feet of an unknown wolf. The unknown nipped and barked at her.

     She backed away, not taking her eyes off the wolf barking at her. She backed herself into Kane’s front legs. She stood no chance against him. She was only a few weeks old. Kane kicked her straight up in the air and caught her in his mouth. He slammed her onto the ground and held her there.

     Kane waited for her to go limp before shifting. “You wouldn’t last a minute in a war,” he said. He stopped in front of Noah with an evil glint in his eyes. “You should’ve knocked her up. We’re going to war next month. She’s coming with pregnant or not.”

     “You’re sentencing them to death,” Harold shouted. As soon as he noticed the words that slipped from his mouth, he was in front of Noah.

     Kane knocked Harold out of the way and grabbed Noah by the throat. He tossed Noah into the field behind him before Harold could get off the ground. Harold was too late to grab Kane as Kane shifted in midair at Noah. Instead, Harold lunged at Emma as she jumped on Kane’s back.

     Kane bucked Emma over his head like a wild horse. He lifted up on his hind legs and caught her in the air by her front leg. He came down with force on Noah’s side, breaking three of Noah’s ribs on impact. With a couple jerks of his head, he snapped Emma’s leg in half then tossed her out of the way. She hit her head on a rock and laid there unconscious.

     Kane’s attention returned to Noah trapped under his foot. He growled viciously before biting Noah in the shoulder. Blood soaked the fur from his shoulder to his leg. Noah gave up the fighting and stared at his lifeless mate. Kane swiped at Noah’s head, and Noah lost sight of his mate. His world went black.

     Kane shifted and glowered in thought at Emma as he got dressed. He didn’t feel he was done making his statement clear. He was the alpha and was to be treated with respect. His decisions were final and not to be questioned or doubted.

     He roughly swooped up Emma in one arm and stomped over to Harold. “He is not to see her until I say different.” Separation from a mate was worse than any physical punishment for a young male. His father would pay for his actions through his son’s suffering.

     Noah’s blood dried on Kane’s angered face as he tread home with Emma under one arm. He was peeved beyond belief. It had been a long time since any pack member raised their voice to him. Even longer since someone challenged him and the runt in his arm was the cause. He had to put Harold, Noah and Emma in their place before complete chaos broke out. His example of the three was met with flying colors. Not one pack member dared to come near him.

     He threw the door open to his house and went straight up the stairs without a word. Tucker and Leo watched him in astonishment. Neither of them had seen him so mad in ages. They sucked in a deep breath. He was only going to get more furious when he saw his room.  

     Kane opened the first door on top of the stairs and chucked Emma on the bed. He went back downstairs and glared at his brothers. “Call the doctor. The girl’s name is Emma and she’ll be staying with us for a while. Keep her in that room and above all, don’t let her leave the house.”

     He went back upstairs to deal with his mate. He was sure she was crying again. Her hormones were starting to drive him crazy. She was acting like he rejected her. He counted to ten outside his door. “She did come to me,” he whispered as a reminder to himself. “Although, I did tell her to call, not leave.” He counted to ten once more in his head. “She’s opening up, don’t push her away.” He opened the door.
