“So where is she now?” Jade asked putting the book done.
“In the hallway scratching and whimpering at Tristan’s door,” he laughed.
Jade stood up opening the door and sure enough there sat a pure white wolf clawing at the bottom of a door, whining. A little blonde hair, blue eyed girl stood behind her quietly. Heather turned her head in Jade’s direction and snarled at her. She slowly stood up and then her posture changed, her tail began wagging in excitement. “She’s my mate, Heather,” Damien chimed from behind Jade with a phone to his ear. “I don’t have any bacon.”
“Why did she snap in the end?” Jade asked with uncertainty watching Heather snubbing her nose up a Damien. Heather returned to Tristan’s door with more determination than before.
“She thought a couple of the humans in the room were a threat to her daughter,” Damien answered becoming annoyed.
“Tristan, wake your lazy butt up and let your mate and her daughter in your room.” Damien snapped into the phone. He hung up the phone waiting for a Tristan to open the door for Heather, in his boxers. Damien smiled, Tristan glared and Heather jumped up on Tristan.
“He had the late night on patrol last night,” Damien explained. “She lives with her husband and her daughter. She’s stays with Tristan three days a week. She’ll be fine with you now, knowing who you are.”
“Were the humans a threat?”
“Turns out they were hunters and picked up right away what she was and who she was protecting. She sensed their excitement toward her daughter. She was right; they were going to take her daughter as bait to get Heather away from Tristan.”
“Where are the hunters now?”
“I don’t know, ask Tristan,” he answered smug. “He took care of them.”
“Does she ever shift back?”
“She does once in a while, when she’s alone with Tristan. The skittish ones don’t tend to shift often.”
“She’s not afraid of you anymore,” Jade stated confused.
“Do you have any idea how many pounds of bacon I went through to get her that way?”
“You continued to bribe her with bacon?” Jade asked laughing.
“Her wolf side likes bacon,” he answered shrugging his shoulders.
“What about her human side?”
“If I could catch her human side, I would know,” Damien answered sly, knowing he caught her next question.
