Damien's patience was running thin as he stared at the sixteen-year-old girl in front of him. She was curled in the corner with her premature daughter tucked protectively under her. On her shoulder was the scar of a young werewolf's bite, but she wasn't a werewolf.
Damien took a deep breath and slowly let it out, trying to breath out his stress. "Sweetie, she needs to go to the doctor." He wanted to go and grab that baby, but every time anyone would take a step closer, the girl's grip would tighten. "You need to go have fun."
The girl misunderstood the frustration in Damien's voice. She would give up her life before letting him hurt her child. The last time a werewolf told her to have fun she endured pain like she had never felt before. Her breathing became choppy between sobs as the memories came flooding back.
"I don't want another baby," she said.
Damien threw his hands up in the air. Unable to handle anymore, he turned and stormed out of the room. "I need a break," he said, to the first guard he passed. "Get her and that baby to the doctor. I don't care how you do it as long as it's done." There was no more time to waste, the baby needed to be in an incubator and fast.
Every woman he passed while trying to find Jade, flinched in fear. They held on to their children with their lives. The few women who had true mates were held protectively by them. Damien was living a nightmare.
Damien grabbed Jade in desperate need when he found her. He inhaled her scent in attempt to calm his nerves. He wanted to rip Kane and Marcus' heads off. It was their job as pack leaders to keep the peace. "We need to teach them to trust," Damien said in Jade's hair.
Damien's phone rang. "I told the kids to be kids and half of them lay down and closed their eyes. The other half shifted and waited for a command. I told them to have fun, no fighting. They all looked at me confused," Zoltin said in frustration.
"What are they doing now?"
"Half of them are sleeping, the other half are staring at me. Some of the girls are shaking and crying."
"Stay there. I'm bringing the rest of their pack up there. I'm having a nice little talk with all of them."
As soon as everyone was herded in the gym, Damien stood up on a chair. His eyes filled with anger. Jade stood beside him in fear. She had never seen Damien so mad before. She had no clue what he was going to say or do.
"There is supposed to be peace and comfort inside a pack, not terror," Damien shouted. Everyone hushed. The women and children continued to cry. The men continued to hover over them on edge. However, it was all done silently as Damien continued his lecture.
"You're all part of my pack now. I never want to see a hand raised to a child or woman again. I never want to hear about a man forcing himself on a woman again. I will personally kill anyone who forces a child onto another child. If you were taken from your loved ones, I want you to find one of my men and tell them where your loved ones can be found. Now go have fun and relax and by fun, I want to hear laughter!"
Jade stared at Damien in astonishment as he climbed off the chair. "You seriously expect them to have fun after that?"
"You have any better suggestions?" Damien asked in a snappy tone.
"Calm down. To them, anger equals pain."
Emma and Noah inched toward Jade as she continued to lecture Damien to calm down. Damien spotted them and they froze. "My mom and dad don't live far from here," Emma said quietly. "All the other men are busy." Truth be told, they didn't trust anybody else. Damien was the first werewolf outside of Noah's parents to talk nicely to them and not hurt them for being scared.
