Noah woke in a bed. It had been a long time since he slept in a bed. He felt cold and alone. He jerked up and caught his breath in pain. He searched the room, recognizing it as his parents. He couldn’t find Emma anywhere. Suddenly, all the events from the night before came crashing back.

     “Dad,” Noah screamed in panic.

Harold rushed in the room. “Where’s Emma?” Noah asked before dad could speak a word.

“Kane took her,” his dad answered.

     “Is she okay?”

“The doctor said she had a broken arm and her concussion was almost healed already. She’ll be fine.”

“I need to see her,” Noah insisted.

“You can’t. Kane said you two weren’t allowed see to each other until three days before we attack the Keno pack.”

“What is he going to do to her?”

“I don’t know. I don’t think he won’t hurt her too badly. He stated he needs her fight. Besides, he’s having her sleep through her pain.”

“Can I have something? I can barely breathe,” Noah asked.

“I’m sorry. Kane said you couldn’t even have aspirin. I’m so sorry Noah. I lost my temper and now you and Emma have to pay the price.” Harold left the room, unable to face his son.

Lori lay in bed staring into space. She didn’t move or say a word in fear of crying. This was not how Kane wanted his time with her to be like. “Talk to me, sweet pea.” He tangled his fingers in her thick blonde hair and began massaging the very place he hit her. “What’s wrong?”

     “Is Emma and Willow okay?”

“They’re fine, but that’s not the problem. Is someone bothering you?”

Lori shook her head no. “Would you tell me if someone was?” Kane asked.

“You’d hurt me if I didn’t,” Lori said, quietly.

“Talk to me. Tell me what’s wrong. I haven’t seen you smile or heard you laugh in years. Your fits are getting worse, you need to stop bottling it up and talk to me.”

     “You’ll hurt me,” she said.

     “I promise I won’t.”

     “I want leave,” she said.

“Where do you want to go? Marcus can handle the pack for couple days.”

“I want leave you,” she said, pulling away from him and cowering. She waited for the hit that never came. She slowly opened her eyes and saw hurt written all over Kane’s entire body.

“That’s not an option,” he said, stunned.

     “Kill me,” she said.

“That’s definitely not an option,” he said. He sat stunned and lost for words. He knew things were bad, but not this bad.

“After the baby’s born,” she pled.

“I’m never killing you and you’re never leaving me,” he said in frustration. He got up and began pacing the room. “Damn it!” he shouted. With nothing to take his stress out on, he punched a hole in the wall. He couldn’t hurt her, he promised he wouldn’t. This time he was keeping his word. “What’s wrong?” he shouted. He grabbed her face with both hands in one quick move, making her look at him. “I order you to tell me.”
