I boarded the train and Delilah led me to the back to find a compartment. We found an empty one and sat down, Delilah sat on my lap. I stroked her back gently, wondering if I was going to make any friends here.
A few minutes later I heard the compartment door open. I sensed that someone had sat across from me. "Hi!" It was a boy's voice and it was full of excitement. I smiled over in his direction. "Hi." "Are you a first year?" I nodded, suddenly feeling very shy. "Oh cool! Me too! What house do you think you'll be sorted in?" "I don't know...I'm not very familiar with the houses."
"Oh ok you must be a muggle born then, that's cool." "Er...yeah something like that." "Well if you want I can tell you about the houses." I smiled again. "That'd be great thanks."
"Ok so there's 4 houses, Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw." The boy then proceeded to explain how all of the houses had gotten their names and what the traits of the 4 houses were. When he was finished I sat there, amazed. "Wow." I breathed "Thats awesome." "Yeah it really is huh? My dad was in Hufflepuff and my mom was in Gryffindor, so I'm counting on one of those houses. What about you? Which houses were your parents in?" "Well..um my dad's a muggle I think and I never knew my mom so I'm not sure."
"Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean to- "No, no it's alright, but I didn't catch your name?" "Oops I always forget to introduce myself, I'm Mark, Mark Burke." He had stuck out his hand for Vale to shake it, but she didn't know. I smiled. "I'm Vale Sinclair." "Uh...that's a nice name...I hate to be rude...b-"yeah I'm blind." I said cutting him off. "Oh! Well I um..."
I was half expecting him to get up and move to a different compartment but he didn't. "That's great! I mean blind people are supposed to have super hearing and an extra strong sense of smell right?" I smiled. "Yep."
I heard the compartment door open again. "Hey Mark! Have fun this year!" Said a boy's voice, I heard the compartment door close again. "Sorry about that, that was my older brother, Jonathan. He's a 5th year and he got sorted into Hufflepuff." "That's nice, sometimes I wish I had siblings." "Oh no, believe me you do not want siblings, I have 4 of them, not fun." I giggled. "Ok I'll take your word for it." "Maybe I will make some friends this year."
